‘Game of Thrones’ Emilia Clarke on Turning Down Role in Fifty Shades of Grey

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”22748″ img_size=”900×500″ alignment=”center”][vc_column_text]Emilia Clarke played Daenerys for eight seasons on Game of Thrones wonderfully and along with some really challenging scenes along the way, Clarke has also had to be vulnerable on screen a few times during the run of the series. One of the ways is that within the first episode of the show, based on the novels from George R.R. Martin; Clarke has had some nude scenes. And while nudity was quite heavily featured in GOT, the actress admits that it was due to nudity that she turned down a role in Fifty Shades of Grey.

“I love her [about director Sam Taylor-Johnson], and I thought her vision was beautiful. But the last time that I was naked on camera on [Game of Thrones] was a long time ago, and yet it is the only question that I ever get asked because I am a woman.

“And it’s annoying as hell and I’m sick and tired of it because I did it for the character — I didn’t do it so some guy could check out my tits, for God’s sake. So, that coming up, I was like, ‘I can’t.’ I did a minimal amount and I’m pigeonholed for life, so me saying yes to that, where the entire thing is about sensuality and sex and being naked and all of that stuff, I was just like, ‘No way am I going to voluntarily walk into that situation and then never be able to look someone in the eye and be like, no, you can’t keep asking me this question.’”

You can check out all eight seasons of Game of Thrones and Clarke’s fantastic acting on the HBO app.
