Where art thou Wendy the Waitress? Charlene Amoia, known for serving up behind-the-bar giggles on How I Met Your Mother, talks about the new spin-off How I Met Your Father (and no, she’s not in it – yet!), and her new series Sons of Thunder: Redemption, now showing on Pureflix.
Let’s get this out of the way first, have you been watching HOW I MET YOUR FATHER?
Ha-ha. Yes, I’ve watched the 1st two episodes so far. Definitely had a few laugh out loud moments.
Think there’s any chance ‘Wendy’ could show up there sometime?
Sure, why not? The show really does great service to the HIMYM fans by using some of the original sets and set pieces. Why not have a couple run-ins with some of the regular side characters. Could be fun!
Do you miss sitcom work?
Oh geez, yes, I do. I love being on comedy sets. Funny enough, my first sitcom experience was on the “FRIENDS” spin off, “JOEY” and the most recent one was also on a Matt LeBlanc sitcom called, “MAN WITH A PLAN.”
I imagine HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER opened a lot of doors for you?
It’s hard to say, really. I just keep trucking along, doing the auditions that get sent my way and saying yes to any offers that come in but I do have the most fond memories working on that show!
BIRDS OF PREY, THE CONJURING 3, AMERICAN PIE… you’ve done some huge studio films. Yet you never forget your indie roots. Is it all about the script for you?
I love what I do so I don’t discriminate when it comes to the medium it’s in. Acting has always been a true love, so whether I’m doing it on a big budget film or a passion project, I’m excited to get my hands dirty as far as character work and development.
What appealed to you about joining SONS OF THUNDER : REDEMPTION?
The show’s intention is to uplift and inspire the audience. I personally love redemptive and inspiring stories so I was very happy to be cast in one.
And it’s a relatively short commitment, I believe – as opposed to the days when a series would have 22 episodes a season?
True. Our season was only 6 episodes and we often shot them out of order per location to save time, so the schedule was very similar to film shoot.
How alike your character are you like?
Sandy is a sensitive but strong woman. She’s been through a lot of heartbreak and some very difficult circumstances but overall she tries to work through the pain and put good out into the world. When I read though the scripts I related to her right away and felt that our lives had a lot of very interesting parallels. I think overall we are very similar.
