Geek Vibes Interview with ‘GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE BLOOD’ Actress Gigi Gustin

This May, director Anthony Cantanese (Hi-Death) reminds us… Girls Just Wanna Have Blood!

Coming this May from Wild Eye Releasing, a bloody and unique new addition to the vampire-pic subsection.

When social outcast Jessica is accepted into a trio of teenage vampires, she finds herself thrust into a nocturnal world of murder, drugs and all-night parties as they stalk the patrons of local bars and clubs. Meanwhile, a mysterious, foreign vampire hunter searches the underworld in hopes of putting a stake right through their plan to party forever.

We spoke to star Gigi Gustin about the film!

What a blast “Girls Just Wanna Have Blood” is! How did you get involved in this one, Gigi?

I met the director Anthony Catanese at a film festival in Trenton NJ. He asked if I’d like to audition for his film, and I said absolutely. Things obviously worked out, because here I am!

What was the initial appeal for you?

The script seemed like a lot of fun! I have always been drawn to horror, and been a fan of vampire films.

Did the project change, if even slightly, due to budget or other creative decisions, as the shooting date approached?

I think Tony stayed pretty true to the script, but they say there is the movie you write, the movie you shoot, and the movie you edit. Things changed constantly, but sometimes financial restraints can jog creativity. I think Tony did great with the resources we had.

How long of a shoot was it- and where were those fun locations?

We shot almost entirely out on the east coast in Trenton NJ. It’s hard to say exactly how long the shoot was, as we actually had to post pone filming half way through the shoot because I had been cast as a competitor on Fox’s American Grit Season 2. Tony was very understanding of the opportunity and willing to work around it, but I was gone for almost two months. When I returned home, we finished the film. I owe him for that one!

Most of the sequences in the film looked like they were filmed practically, without an abundance of CGI. Is that correct?

It is! I personally am not a huge fan of CGI. I think practical is the way to go.

How important is a social media presence for an actor these days?

It’s important. I have lost jobs to other girls just because they have a bigger Instagram following than me. It’s free promotion, so it’s extremely attractive to casting.

What’s the future hold for you?

Besides Girls Just Wanna Have Blood, I have a few more films coming out shortly, and am in pre production for some really cool projects! You can watch Fast and Fierce: Death Race, on iTunes and Apple TV right now!
