Gomorrah: Fourth Season continues the worldwide gangster show phenomenon that is based on Roberto Saviano’s best-selling book and the subsequent award-winning film of the same name. Genny (Salvatore Esposito), having lived through it all, needs to change his own life to save the family. As he turns into a businessman, he has to hand his kingdom over to Patrizia (Cristiana Dell’Anna) and entrust his own life to a mob crew with ties to Donna Imma.

Video Quality
Gomorrah: Season 4 arrives on Blu-Ray in a stellar 1080p transfer which improves upon the high standards set by the previous seasons. This fourth season mirrors the previous season with twelve episodes over four discs which allows each episode a fair amount of space. This is a series that continues to refine its look to even more gorgeous heights, and this outing looks deeply impressive in high definition. The cinematography continues to be a strong appeal of the show with many distinct and intricate locales. The landscape featured in certain environments gives the disc a chance to shine in the detail department. Distinct texture also extends to the production design and costumes for a very tactile experience. Skin tones look natural throughout the season, and there are no digital anomalies of great note. The color palette is natural and vivid with brilliant moments of stunning hues that pop off the screen. The series looks solid on HBO Max, but the Blu-Ray presentation has less compression and more consistent black levels. Kino Lorber has done a terrific job with this presentation.
Audio Quality
The Blu-Ray set comes with both a DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 and 2.0 track that are quite lively. The set is presented in both the original Italian and dubbed English with optional English subtitles. As always, we advocate viewing the series in its original Italian. The series has a palpable score that brings a notable atmosphere to the series that fills up the room on this track. The dialogue primarily stays anchored in the center channel and is reproduced clearly. There are fairly frequent sequences of brutality that give this track a boost when it is necessary to the narrative. There is some immersive ambient activity in the mix as our characters make their way through the city. Certain environments are especially active in the surround channels with sounds emanating from the appropriate directions. The track does a good job of making sure neither sound effects nor the score ever overpowers dialogue. Also, when things get more kinetic, there is some activity that will be appreciated by those with a good sound system. This track has a grand dynamic range that consistently stands out.

Final Thoughts
The fourth season of Gomorrah takes a bit of a creative turn after the events of the previous season which finds certain characters trying to find their place in their new circumstances. While still fully entrenched in criminal elements, the exact form often varies as the show provides a larger commentary on class structure and the nature of crime. The densely layered narrative maintains its momentum and keeps you riveted in the way the show has mastered over its previous three seasons. Kino Lorber has released a Blu-Ray set that offers a great A/V presentation but next to nothing in the way of special features. If you have enjoyed the show up until now, the high quality of this latest season will not be a shock. Highly Recommended
