The premier of the final season of Game of Thrones. As we settle in for the final six episodes, it has been a time for retrospect of the previous Seven Seasons and what fans might not have known during its record setting run.
For example, did you know that the character of Lyanna Mormont was only supposed to appear in one scene? You remember Lyanna? The Lady of House Mormont whose “eat shit and die” look inspired a multitude of Game of Thrones memes worldwide and made a budding star out of young Bella Ramsey who brought the proud leader of House Mormont to life. In a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff, spoke of how her character was supposed to be a one and done appearance.
Part of what excites me is the performance of these actors. So many of them have been with us since the beginning and they’ve grown — both literally for the kids, and as characters. In many cases, they’re going so far beyond what was expected for them. Some, like Lyanna Mormont, were just supposed to be in one scene. Bella is such an incredible actress that we kept bringing her back because we wanted more Bella.
How fortunate for Game of Thrones fans that Lyanna was brought back for further episodes. Never has a character who was not supposed to matter in the grand scheme of things, stepped up so big and with such a presence.
