‘Green Lantern’ Film Getting New Script

Just a couple of months ago it was announced that Geoff Johns would be writing and producing the future Green Lantern Corps movie. Originally a script had been penned by David S. Goyer. This name should ring a bell if like myself you’re a huge fan of DC films in general. Goyer has served as a writer for the likes of The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel and Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice. This tradition looked set to continue as back in January of 2017 Goyer signed on as both co-writer and co-producer for the Green Lantern Corps project. However, since Geoff Johns has signed on to become the lead writer of the project we may not get to see Goyer’s script come to fruition as Johns is pretty much writing the story from scratch.

In an interview with Collider, Johns explained his current writing process for the Green Lantern Corps script:

“I think you look at everything – this is when I do comics, too – you look at everything that worked and didn’t work, on anything. Like revamping a character, reintroducing a character, I’ve done it a lot. The creative kind of viewpoint and way into the character and rebooting and changing it and reintroducing it, is informed by everything. It’s informed by comics and both what works and what doesn’t work. I don’t wanna spoil any of the story there, but if people liked my run on Green Lantern, then hopefully they’ll like what I’m doing. I’m taking everything into account. That’s what you do. You are not starting from ground zero and going ‘I’m going to tell a story about this.’ It’s connected to everything, animation and comics and zeitgeist and other movies, There is a lot to take in and then redirect, and I am trying to do what I did on the comics in a way, do a rebirth. What do you do to try and reintroduce a concept and a group of characters and make it – this applies to everything I work on – but as a writer, and that’s what I really wanted to get back to, is being the writer, when I do my comics I feel I have more control over the minutiae, because the minutiae it does matter. All those little choices add up to something good or something that doesn’t work. Part of the reason I want to get back into the writing of it all is because I want to form that minutia myself.”

Geoff Johns and the people at Warner Bros. would be hoping that everyone has learned from their mistakes with the Green Lantern movie which was released back in 2011 by giving both the character and the universe that comes along with it the movie it truly deserves. I’ve always said that if done right a Green Lantern movie could be one of DC’s biggest movies ever.

How do you feel about this news? Are you glad the film is finally getting off the ground or are you upset that it’s going to have to go through an entire new re-write? Leave us a comment below and stay tuned to Geek Vibes Nation for more DCU news.
