Netflix’s new animated comedy DANG! is bringing plenty of irreverence to the screen, and its accompanying soundtrack is doing the same with an eclectic seven-track collection featuring original themes, comedic songs and an unexpected new take on a pop classic.
GVN is exclusively premiering grentperez’s cover of The Carpenters’ “Yesterday Once More,” featured on DANG! — Soundtrack from the Netflix Series from Lakeshore Records.
The Sydney-born singer-songwriter puts his own spin on the 1973 favorite while maintaining the warmth and nostalgia that made the original recording so enduring. The song appears twice on the soundtrack, both in its full version and as an Erhu variation.

grentperez On Reimagining The Carpenters Classic
The opportunity carried a particularly personal connection for grentperez, who revealed that “Yesterday Once More” is one of his mother’s favorite songs.
“I really enjoyed singing ‘Yesterday Once More,’ for one it’s my mum’s favourite song, well one of them at least, so when I was presented with the opportunity, I took it in a heartbeat.”
Taking on a song this recognizable also presented a creative challenge. Rather than radically reinventing The Carpenters’ original, grentperez and producer Vinny, also known as 18YOMAN, focused on finding a version that could carry their own personality without losing what made the track special in the first place.
“It was fun, experimenting with different versions of the song, in a way a bit of a challenge when dealing with such a perfect, iconic track, so we had to tread ‘tastefully’ as to not take it too far away from the original.”
He added that he and Vinny quickly found themselves creatively aligned, making the recording process particularly enjoyable.
DANG! Gets A Seven-Track Soundtrack
Lakeshore Records releases DANG! — Soundtrack from the Netflix Series digitally on September 8. The seven-track album reflects the animated series’ unconventional sense of humor through a mixture of original score, comedy songs and the grentperez cover.
Composer Leo Birenberg provides the show’s main title and end credit themes, while Matt Rogers contributes two very different versions of “Come Inside Me.” Warren and Keith Harrison Dworkin team up for “Rude.”
grentperez’s “Yesterday Once More” provides the album with a notably different musical moment, appearing both as an Erhu arrangement and in the version listeners can hear above.

What Is Netflix’s DANG! About?
DANG! is an adult animated comedy centered on siblings Andrew and Eunice, whose messy but enjoyable lives in New York City are disrupted when their accomplished older sister Ruthie suddenly becomes a much bigger part of their world.
After Ruthie’s seemingly perfect life falls apart, Andrew and Eunice attempt to show their older sister the benefits of embracing imperfection. In return, Ruthie finds herself helping the younger siblings become slightly more functional adults.
The series stars Stephanie Hsu, Andrew Law and Poppy Liu, with Law also serving as creator. Mike Schur, Alan Yang and David Miner are among the executive producers.
Universal Television and Titmouse produce the series.
Who Is grentperez?
Australian singer-songwriter grentperez has developed an audience around a laid-back style of pop that blends romantic sincerity with an easygoing sense of humor.
He first broke through with “Cherry Wine,” which earned gold certification in both the United States and Australia, before building an international following through headline tours and appearances supporting artists including Rex Orange County, Wallows, Laufey and Cavetown.
His 2025 debut album, Backflips in a Restaurant, reached No. 1 on the ARIA Australian Artist Albums chart and No. 3 overall. The record was later nominated for Australian Album of the Year at the 2025 J Awards.
That followed his Emerging Songwriter of the Year honor at the 2024 APRA Awards.
In 2026, grentperez returned with the g00se EP, a collection reflecting a period of rapid personal change and the comfort he found in music while navigating it.
The Music Fits DANG!’s Unpredictable Personality
The soundtrack’s seven songs cover a surprisingly wide amount of ground for such a compact release.
Birenberg’s score themes establish the musical identity of the series, while tracks from Rogers, Warren and Dworkin lean into the show’s more irreverent comedic personality. The inclusion of a Carpenters cover gives the album an unexpectedly sincere counterpoint.
It’s also fitting that grentperez didn’t approach “Yesterday Once More” as something that needed to be completely transformed. The original’s nostalgic character remains central to the new recording, with the singer bringing his own understated style to a song that already had a personal connection for him long before DANG! came along.
