Grand Theft Auto 6, one of the most anticipated games of this decade, was just hit with its second big delay of this year. In a statement shared on X on Nov. 6, Rockstar, the company behind all GTA games, wrote: “Grand Theft Auto VI will now release on Thursday, November 19, 2026. We are sorry for adding additional time to what we realize has been a long wait, but these extra months will allow us to finish the game with the level of polish you have come to expect and deserve.”
While this news is concerning on its own, the broader implication of this delay is that it indirectly pushes the PC version of the game even further into the future – with 2028 serving as the new reference point based on previous GTA releases. The GTA release cycle typically launches the console versions first, while the PC version is released later (often much later). This is devastating news for PC gamers, who now must come to terms with the fact that GTA 6 is still a minimum of three years away.
The release pattern
For those who remember, when GTA V first came out, it took Rockstar an excruciating 19 months to finally release the game on PC. If Rockstar decides to follow a similar strategy for GTA 6, GTA fans must accept that they might not be able to play GTA 6 on their PCs until well into 2028.
The only hope is that the most recent delay is a result of Rockstar secretly prepping the PC version alongside the consoles, which means that the intimidating 19-month release scenario for the PC game will not come true. But while both scenarios are possible at this moment, so far, GTA VI has only been teased as “coming to PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.”
This supports the theory of a significant gap between console and PC game versions, which, let’s face it, makes for a smart business decision. Knowing that it could take over a year after the initial release for GTA 6 to arrive on PC, many PC gamers who own a gaming console will likely end up buying both versions, driving the overall sales numbers. This is especially true for a legendary title like GTA, which defined an entire generation of gamers.
From the simple graphics of top online casinos in USA to the mesmerizing over-the-mountain sunsets of Red Dead Redemption 2, the graphics in games have come a long way. New titles now take years to develop and cost hundreds of millions of dollars. It’s no wonder then that releases of this magnitude, anticipated by millions of gamers, demand substantial effort – both in pre-launch preparation and post-launch support – even without the added challenge of introducing a PC version alongside them. This is why, despite all the hopium circulating online, it’s more likely that the PC version of GTA 6 will arrive at least 12 months after the initial release.
Interestingly, the news seems to be reaching unexpected areas: just recently, a far-right Polish politician, Witold Tumanowicz, of the Confederation Liberty and Independence coalition and the National Movement party, addressed the topic directly in Parliament: “Madam speaker, honorable members, as part of my parliamentary statement, I wanted to inform you about a very disturbing matter. An hour ago, Rockstar Games announced that the release of GTA 6 will be postponed until next year,” Tumanowicz joked. “This is a huge scandal. Frankly, if people don’t take to the streets after something like this, I don’t know what will happen,” he concluded.
Will GTA 6 get delayed again?
Rockstar officially announced GTA 6 was in the works in February 2022, stating the game would come out in 2025. Three years and two delays later, there are (unfortunately) no guarantees that further delays won’t be announced in the coming months. The stakes are high, the public pressure is big, and Rockstar seems to be taking its time to ensure the game meets expectations and makes a big fortune. While many fans are disappointed that they will be getting Red Dead Redemption on mobile before GTA 6 even sees the light of day, most fans are okay with waiting a little longer if it means getting a game that will knock them off their feet.
As discussions around GTA VI’s latest delay deepen concerns about development timelines and platform expectations, it’s also interesting to consider how digital entertainment ecosystems evolve more broadly, with companies like Soft2Bet Sweden playing a role in shaping modern online gaming infrastructure behind the scenes.
