And apparently, Vol 3 has a working title. According to Production Weekly, the working title for the third film is called Hot Christmas. Most movies and tv shows have a working title that is a vague hint at what the project could be about, so does this mean we can expect a holiday theme Guardians of the Galaxy?
Despite James Gunn being booted as the director, his script is reportedly still being used, so perhaps he had intended to have a Christmas/holiday themed movie. After the heartbreak of Infinity War and what will surely be a devastating end in Avengers 4, having a film focused on family and togetherness might be just what we the viewers need.
Sean Gunn, James Gunn’s brother; offered some insight on Guardians 3:
“I don’t really know yet what’s going on with Guardians 3. I know that Disney still wants to make the movie. I know that they have every intention of using the script that my brother wrote. Obviously, that was a very unfortunate situation for everybody, most of all him, but I am also somebody who had been preparing to spend half a year making that movie and now that’s up in the air.”
“Obviously, I think it’s a tricky proposition for them to find another director to step in — and also the scheduling of a lot of other actors who are incredibly busy can’t be easy,” Gunn said. “But I know that they plan on making the movie. I had not been contacted at all for a while, but I was recently contacted by Marvel saying, ‘Yeah, we do plan to make this movie. We’re just not sure when yet.'”
This means that we will still see Sean in the Guardians franchise, as well as hopefully all the actors, despite Dave Bautista’s strong opposition towards Disney right now. Meanwhile, James Gunn’s career cannot be ruined by Marvel’s decision to oust him; now the director has been brought in for Suicide Squad 2.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
