A woman with red hair, wearing a plaid skirt and black top, stands outdoors holding a large artillery shell next to a military cannon, with a scenic landscape in the background.

In 2017, childhood friends writer Kris Bertin and artist Alexander Forbes launched a graphic novel series that’s as captivating, eerie, and charming as it is addictive. The Hobtown Mystery Series is an ongoing thriller set in the peculiar, isolated East Coast village of Hobtown, where a group of teens has taken it upon themselves to investigate all the strange happenings in their town.

The third volume in this series will be available from Oni Press on November 25th, titled “The Secret of the Saucer.”

In Hobtown Mystery Stories: The Secret of the Saucer, the lines between conspiracy and reality become intertwined like never before during the town’s highly contested mayoral election. There’s the arrival of an unexplained, unidentified flying object, a chaotic and unhinged Ape Lord, and an outbreak of literal backward thinking. The high school Teen Detective Club should be at the forefront of the case but is rife with conflict and its own crisis of leadership as the sleuths become increasingly paranoid. Is there anyone they can trust?

Now, thanks to the generosity of Oni Press and the creative team of Bertin and Forbes, we are proud to reveal these exclusive pages in their ongoing series.

A woman holding a missile stands in front of a large artillery gun in a rocky outdoor setting. The cover reads "The Secret of the Saucer: Hobtown Mystery Stories 3" by Bertin and Forbes.

A woman dives into a lake, swims, climbs out onto rocky terrain, and joins a child on the shore in a sequence of six illustrated panels.

A young woman walks through a forest, then attends an outdoor gathering with people and a "Same Town Same Mayor" sign, where she talks to an older man with curly white hair. A group of people stand in a wooded area discussing a mystery involving a bottle and a principal, while one person examines the bottle closely. A girl hears a scream in the forest, runs with a worried expression, arrives at a lakeside, and is called out to by someone telling her to stay back. A comic page shows two people talking on a rocky riverbank and cliff. They discuss research, sense-making, and bluffing, with varied emotional expressions and gestures throughout the scene.

Oni Press’s “Hobtown Mystery Stories: The Secret of the Saucer” by Kris Bertin and Alexander Forbes will be released on November 25, 2025.
