I reluctantly admit I had a morbid fascination with the 1975 film Deathrace 2000. Starring David Carradine, and featuring Sylvester Stallone, Simone Griffeth, Mary Woronov, Martin Kove, and Don Steele, Deathrace 2000 had a feature that a geek kid of 12 or 13 could appreciate. You scored points by running over pedestrians. Imagine my surprise when I found out the classic 1997 game Carmageddon was inspired by the cult classic. Makes sense.
The game won the 1997 PC Game of the Year and Driving Game of the Year awards at the PC Game Reader Awards, sparking two sequels: Carmageddon II: Carpocalypse Now (1998) and Carmageddon TDR 2000 (2000). After all, there was always time for a bit of fictional automotive chaos.
Fast forward to the present, and developer 34BigThings is bringing back all that carnage and automotive homicide with CARMAGEDDON: ROGUE SHIFT. The details are shared in the following press release:

Carmageddon: Rogue Shift Spins Off Beloved Vehicular-Combat Mayhem Franchise in Early 2026
Every Crash Makes You Stronger
December 4, 2025 – The legendary Carmageddon series is back with brutal new roguelite vehicular-combat mayhem in a new surprise entry, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift. The announcement, along with the reveal of the official launch trailer, was made by the developer 34BigThings today at the PC Gaming Show: Most Wanted.
Carmageddon: Rogue Shift will be available on all major platforms with the exact release date to be announced at a later date.
In this new edition of the classic franchise, Carmageddon: Rogue Shift blends the signature metal-on-metal carnage of the classic series with modern roguelite depth and silky arcade handling. Whether you live for stylish drifts, tactical loadouts or pure destruction racing, every run dishes out new combos and highlight-reel moments. By day, the skyline smolders; by night, zombie hordes – the Wasted – flood every avenue and turn them into kill-zones. Your only way out is to win the Carmageddon: a chain of lethal underground races whose champion earns a shot at the last spaceport beyond the mountains.
“We are bringing something fresh to the franchise and the racing genre” said Giuseppe Enrico Franchi, Game Director. “Carmageddon means explore, experiment, paint the streets red and crumple up opponents. We want our players to adapt, upgrade, and unleash destruction on zombie hordes with glee behind the wheel of a killing machine. Rogue Shift will hit with those who fondly remember the legendary series, and those who are discovering it for the first time – reignited, reinvented and more thrilling than ever.”
