We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in home entertainment week in and week out. For the week of August 22nd, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get the full rundown of what you should have on your wishlist, plus take a chance to check out what Michael and I are spotlighting on The Video Attic this week.
This weeks finds the arrival of several eagerly anticipated new and catalog releases from across all genres. First off, we have an underrated DC entry from the small screen with the recently cancelled Naomi: The Complete Series on Blu-Ray from Warner Bros. This show co-created by Ava DuVernay never got the support of the other Arrowverse shows on The CW, but it is worth checking out if you want a fun twist on the Superman story.
If you want something to tap into the nostalgic area of your brain, we have two beloved films that should do the trick. First, Shout! Factory has worked to bring the animated family favorite FernGully: The Last Rainforest to Blu-Ray for its 30th anniversary newly remastered in 4K from its original materials. If you want something a little more grown up, you only need to travel back five years to the release of Dirty Dancing, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary from Lionsgate with a new 4K UHD Blu-Ray release in Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos audio along with a ton of new and archival special features. You will be having the time of your life with either release!
Elsewhere in the land of the catalog releases, we have two eagerly anticipated titles making their 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut from Scream Factory. First off, we have the Neil Marshall werewolf tale Dog Soldiers debuting on 4K UHD in Dolby Vision with a ton of great special features that fans will eat up. We also have the supernatural horror feature Cat People from madman Paul Schrader debuting on the format with a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision plus a nice array of legacy special features. Be sure to get our thoughts on both of these in The Video Attic below.
This is only a taste of the incredibly packed lineup you have to look forward to you this week. Be sure to check out the full list below after checking out The Video Attic where we discuss the new season of South Park on Blu-Ray, the 4K UHD debut of the Stanley Kubrick wartime classic Paths of Glory, some supremely unsettling claymation, cheesy TV movies, new releases from 88 Films, Paramount, Kino Classics and more.
