We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in home entertainment week in and week out. For the week of August 8th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get the full rundown of what you should have on your wishlist, plus take a chance to check out what Michael and I are spotlighting on The Video Attic this week.
This weeks finds the arrival of one of the biggest releases of the year as Paramount welcomes the rollicking sequel Sonic The Hedgehog 2 to 4K UHD Blu-Ray. This release comes with Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos audio along with an hour of bonus features, headlined by an all-new, exclusive animated short.
If you want something more likely to get under your skin, we have two recent horror films on Blu-Ray that should do the trick. First, Alex Garland and the fine folks at A24 are offering up the hot-button body horror film Men starring Academy Award nominee Jessie Buckley. Although, if you are in the mood for body horror, it is hard to resist the siren call of the master David Cronenberg returning to the genre with Crimes Of The Future starring Viggo Mortensen and Kristen Stewart. Either way, you are probably going to have some strange dreams following a viewing of these two.
If you want to do some good with your viewing habits, perhaps you should consider checking out the new animated film Gulliver Returns on DVD from Shout! Kids. Inspired by both Jonathan Swift’s timeless tale and an original idea from Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the Ukrainian production takes the classic character Gulliver and sets him on an all-new adventure. Shout! Factory will be donating a portion of the net proceeds earned from the distribution of the movie from year one to World Central Kitchen, a non-profit organization that provides fresh meals in response to crises, which is currently active in Ukraine and surrounding countries providing meals for as many people as possible at border crossings, shelters, and other locations. Learn more about the film here.
In the land of the catalog releases, we have two eagerly anticipated titles making their 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut. First off, we have Al Pacino and Robert De Niro’s crime classic Heat debuting on 4K UHD with a couple of great festival panels along with other supplements. Be sure to get our thoughts on this one in The Video Attic below. We also have the sci-fi horror feature Event Horizon debuting on the format with a 4K scan of the Original Camera Negative in Dolby Vision plus a nice array of legacy special features.
This is only a taste of the incredibly packed lineup you have to look forward to you this week. Be sure to check out the full list below after checking out The Video Attic where we discuss the new DC animated adventure Green Lantern: Beware My Power on 4K UHD, the HBO period series The Guilded Age on DVD, the classic anthology series Night Gallery: Season 2 newly released on Blu-Ray, new releases from 88 Films, Well Go USA, Kino Classics and more.
