We at GVN aim to keep you informed of the newest and best in home entertainment week in and week out. For the week of September 19th, we have some incredible releases making their way to our shelves. Read on to get the full rundown of what you should have on your wishlist, plus take a chance to check out what Michael and I are spotlighting on The Video Attic this week.
This weeks finds the arrival of a hotly anticipated title around these parts as Warner Bros. and DC welcome the complete, unedited version of Batman: The Long Halloween – Deluxe Edition to 4K UHD Blu-Ray. This release comes with HDR and new bonus features, all of which comic book fans will not want to go without. Elsewhere in the land of new releases we find BJ Novak’s surprising and clever directorial debut Vengeance hitting Blu-Ray courtesy of Universal. This one flew under the radar earlier this summer, but it is one we recommend catching up on if you missed it.
Earlier this year, Shout! Factory rocked our world as they started releasing iterations of the long-running Japanese tokusatsu television franchise Kamen Rider with the first entry in the current Reiwa era, Kamen Rider Zero-One. While tokusatsu television shows have started getting better representation on physical media over here in the US, having the Kamen Rider shows pop up has been especially exciting. Now, the company is releasing the complete run of Kamen Rider Kuuga, the first series to air in the Heisei era. Anyone new to the franchise may be delightfully surprised by how intense the fighting can get here, especially for a show which seems to be geared towards a younger audience. The mythology develops quite effectively over its 49 episodes, constantly calling you back for more. If you are a fan of the genre, you are going to want to pick this up to show your support for future releases.
In the land of the catalog releases, we have two eagerly anticipated titles making their 4K UHD Blu-Ray debut courtesy of Warner Bros. First off, we have the Tobe Hooper horror classic Poltergeist debuting on 4K UHD for its 40th anniversary with HDR and an assortment of interesting special features. Also celebrating an anniversary is The Lost Boys from director Joel Schumacher, which can now be found on 4K UHD Blu-Ray in HDR with a nice array of legacy special features. Both of these are perfect additions to your Halloween viewing!
This is only a taste of the incredibly packed lineup you have to look forward to you this week. Be sure to check out the full list below after checking out The Video Attic where I discuss an array of international film releases including the Scream Factory release of the Hungarian horror film Post Mortem, the epic Japanese drama A Fugitive From The Past from Arrow Video, the gnarly horror sequel Evil Dead Trap 2: Hideki newly released on Blu-Ray, new releases from IFC Films, Well Go USA, Kino Classics and more.
