Comic book cover with the title "Free for All" in red and white text beneath the name Patrick Horvath, featuring an illustration of a cheering crowd in the background.

In today’s society, the divide between the wealthy and the less fortunate is wider than ever. But what if those in the elite class were faced with a difficult choice? They could either share their wealth with those in need or, if they refuse, prepare to defend their riches. In a deadly battle against other wealthy individuals who also refuse to share. It’s reminiscent of the Hunger Games, but in this scenario, the affluent are the ones forced to fight. This is the premise of Oni Press “Free for All,”#1 by Patrick Horvath.

In anticipation of this unique and thought-provoking book, we are excited to present this exclusive FOC preview, which includes preview pages and variant covers, thanks to the generous support of Oni Press and creator Patrick Horvath.

PORTLAND, OR (February 27, 2025) – Next month Oni Press, the multiple Eisner and Harvey Award-winning publisher of groundbreaking comics and graphic novels since 1997, will unleash FREE FOR ALL #1 by Eisner Award-nominated cartoonist Patrick Horvath (Beneath the Trees Where Nobody Sees) – a bone-crushing, thought provoking 56-page one-shot graphic novella unlike anything you’ve read. Now, ahead of orders closing, Oni Press is debuting an all-new preview of this highly anticipated dystopian tale that skewers the uber rich and depicts a bold brutal, no-holds-barred vision of Capitalism.

Horvath’s bestselling comic BENEATH THE TREES WHERE NOBODY SEES earned a 2024 Eisner Award nomination for “Best New Series.” FREE FOR ALL #1 presents a timely tale where billionaires fight to the death in mortal hand-to-hand combat rather than see their assets go to the less fortunate. The graphic novella will be available in comic shops everywhere on March 26, 2025!

Patrick Horvath: “Devastating inequality has been evergreen since the beginning of civilization. For everyone living under it, the effects are easy to see everywhere. Equally universal seems to be the rocky romance and betrayal in the personal relationships of those in power. It feels inherent in any sort of pursuit of wealth, and that’s why I made it the beating heart of this story.

In the future, the World Finance League presents the billionaires and trillionaires of the world with a choice: either give away half of your assets to benefit the common folk or defend your wealth in a fight to the death. Ted Brooks, the reigning champ with 22 victories to his name, is a pro at defending the massive fortune he plotted and backstabbed to get — until he meets his ultimate match: his ex-wife, Luella Dominguez, who has been preparing for this moment for a very long time. Will Luella have what it takes to defeat the man who will stop at nothing to protect his wealth in bloody, hand-to-hand combat?

Patrick Horvath: “With Luella Dominguez I found a character that could dive into navigating that type of turmoil. It felt like such a relatable drive to go to whatever lengths necessary to redefine yourself within that type of struggle, even if it was self-destructive.”

A comic scene with characters fighting in an arena, including an announcer, futuristic weaponry, and a dramatic fight sequence. The setting is chaotic, with one character in red armor shown bleeding. Comic page depicting a conversation among a TV reporter, two astronauts, and a man about a lottery win. The scene includes dialogue on welfare funds, luck, and the forthcoming lottery. A comic page shows a person meditating with technology, interacting with a display, and later talking to a friend about an upcoming fight.
