Mad Cave Studios have established a brilliant reputation for telling stories that not only enthrall and entertain readers but also educate. It appears that trend continues in their new series coming from the talented trio of writer Olivia Stephens, artist Diansakhu Banton-Perry and letterer, the prolific Joamette Gil in Tigers Tongue.
The Tiger’s Tongue
This story tells the story of two seperate groups of people: The River’s People and Tiger’s People. Over the many years, fate and circumstance had developed an established social structure. One that caused subjugation that worked for some, but not so much for others. It is a magical tale that explores how political and the personal can sometimes make for hard decisions and possibly, test famiy bonds. Here is the synopsis as provided by our friends at Mad Cave:
Synopsis
Under the militant rule of The Tiger’s People, empowered by their animal familiars, the Claw is on the brink of war. At the precipice of adulthood, twin princesses Kelindi and Aridani hold the future of the Claw in their hands. Kelindi would sue for peace with The River’s People, those who were subjugated “to bring order,” while Aridani has never aspired to rule. But an ancient prophecy is revealed that’ll force fate’s hand for the sisters…
A talented artist and writer, Tiger’s Tongue will be the first project that Olivia Stephens will only write and pass off the drawing duties to another. Fortunately, she has the talented Diansakhu Banton-Perry to take the artistic reigns. Olivia and Diansakhu discussed the project in a recent press release:
Writer, Olivia Stephens
THE TIGER’S TONGUE is a story that deals with power and the friction that can occur between the personal and political pieces in one’s life. My hope is that it reaches those who need it most: those of us who are frustrated, angry, and scared—but who still get up to fight. This is also my first time writing a story that I’m not illustrating, and I could not be happier to have the immense creative talents of Diansakhu, Bex, Odera and Joamette in bringing it to life!
Artist, Diansakhu Banton-Perry
It’s been an amazing experience to work on a project like TIGER’S TONGUE. I adored being able to draw Olivia’s story and bring her characters to life. I’m as thrilled to have this story published as I was when drawing it. I hope my interpretation of Olivia’s vision achieves what we set out to do!
Judging from my first look at the initial book of the series, it will prove to be a success. With magic, conflict and enough drama to impress any fan of stories that entertain and also explore societal norms as a whole. Not to mention the whimsical and dynamic art of Diansakhu. It almost reflects a Disney like Princess Story but with a more gritty amd mature feel. That makes for a win-win in my book.
