Gwyneth Paltrow Forgets She Was in Spider-Man: Homecoming

Marvel is known for filming scenes that perhaps the actors aren’t sure what it’s going to be involved in. After all, they want to avoid leaks. This could make for some hilarious confusion, per example:

Gwyneth Paltrow joined Marvel co-star Jon Favreau on The Chef Show and realized, throughout the conversation; that she was actually in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Fans were shocked and pleasantly surprised to see Paltrow walk in as Pepper Potts, since the last time we heard of her was in Captain America: Civil War when Tony revealed to Cap that the two had split up.

In her Homecoming scene, Pepper is wanting to announce Spider-Man to the world and when it’s revealed that Peter went to return as the “friendly neighborhood Spider-Man”, the power couple decided to announce their engagement instead.

In the video below, you can see Paltrow’s genuine confusion when Favreau tries to remind her of the scene.

Filming scenes without context is within Marvel’s MO, so I think it’s completely reasonable for Paltrow to not have realized that that scene was for Homecoming. Let’s remember Captain Marvel’s end-credit scene where she meets Black Widow:

“There was also nobody else there. I was by myself on a green screen and just real quick ‘We’re gonna whip pan over to you and you ask ‘Where’s Fury?’” – Brie Larson explained.

Do you think Paltrow will show up in Spider-Man: Far From Home or is this interaction with Favreau almost confirmation that we won’t see Pepper Potts? Far From Home hits theaters July 2nd.
