Halloween 2018 Director and Cast Reveal BTS Moments From Film Plus Sequel Details

It seems like right now is the perfect time to watch horror movies. We’re all stuck indoors and it already feels like an apocalyptic world. All joking aside, who doesn’t love the Halloween film franchise? Especially after the success of the 2018 movie that brought in Jamie Lee Curtis to reprise her role as Laurie Strode. Because right now is a great time to revisit beloved genres, Curtis and director David Gordon Green took to Twitter for #HalloweenAtHome – a viewing party at home.

Series creator John Carpenter, actors Judy Greer, James Jude Courtney, Nick Castle, and Andi Matichak and producers Jason Blum and Ryan Turek joined the viewing event. Blum and Turek hosted a fun commentary with background info on Blumhouse’s Halloween (2018).

Here are some of those fun behind the scene moments:

Rotting Pumpkin

Fake Leaves

Because Halloween (2018) was filmed in Charleston, South Carolina during the months of January and February, all of the leaves and pumpkins in the movie were fake. This was the same situation with the original Halloween in California, which used fake leaves as well. Additionally, the crew on Carpenter’s project had to collect the fake leaves to be reused in other scenes.

Who Doesn’t Love Puppets?

Green revealed that the original script contained a story that Laurie’s daughter Karen Strode (played by Greer) was originally a child psychologist who possessed a lot of puppets. The script, which was co-written by Danny McBride and Jeff Fradley, had a scene with the mother and daughter at Karen’s place of work. This was cut out due to it disrupting the flow of the movie.

A Touching Moment

In the scene where Laurie breaks down sobbing in her truck while Michael Myers’ prison bus drives off, the entire crew stood in a line wearing nametags that said “we are Laure Strode” off-camera. Curtis cited this moment as a moving one; one of the most moving of her whole career.

Fake Eye

Another fun behind the scenes reveal is that Courtney, who played Myers for most of 2018’s film; had to wear a prosthetic eye during his scenes. This dead eye is a callback to the original film when Laura hit Myers in the face with a hanger. Courtney stated he had to rehearse his fight scenes while wearing an eye patch due to the difficulty of being blind in the one eye.

One Shot

If you’ve seen the 2018 film, you can remember the one-take sequence of Myers raking up a body count as he goes from house to house. This one-shot take took eleven takes. Also, the baby’s screams in the sequence were performed by Curtis.

Who Called the Po-Po?

During Oscar’s death scene, production was shut down after the cops were called due to late-night screaming. Green expressed that it was the most difficult night of the entire shoot and made worse by extreme rain. Due to this, they were only able to obtain limited footage.

There Was an Alternate Ending

There was an alternate ending to the movie that Green decided to shoot a new ending after it was tested. Green explains that they made the right decision with the theatrical ending and has not revealed what the alternate ending was.

Halloween Ends

Now that we’ve gone through some fun behind the scenes tidbits, let’s get into what is next. Green has revealed that he is in the process of finishing the sequel. Halloween Kills is set to come out on October 16, 2020 – though, who knows if that will happen due to the ongoing pandemic. Green confirms that Halloween Kills will return to the Myers’ house. On top of Halloween Kills, Green is working on the script for another sequel, Halloween Ends. This is set to hit theaters on October 15, 2021.
