Harley Quinn’s Kaley Cuoco Talks About Crafting Her First Dramatic Role

If you ask the average TV-watching American, they probably know Kaley Cuoco as Penny from The Big Bang Theory. Recently, Cuoco has also lent her voice to the Harley Quinn series, but viewers really haven’t seen the actress in a dramatic role. You would say that so many years of being on a comedy like The Big Bang Theory has typecasted her in non-serious roles. This is something Cuoco wants to break away from. And she’s doing it herself.

Cuoco stars in The Flight Attendant – an upcoming HBO Max series. Cuoco not only stars in the drama, but produced the show as well. Speaking with the LA Times, Cuoco expressed:

“Some people are gonna love it, some people are gonna hate it — like, I know that’s gonna happen. My whole career has prepared me for that. But I love TV, I grew up on TV. And I can go to bed knowing I made the best show possible, and that thrills me.”

The Flight Attendant is based on the novel of the same name by Chris Bohjalian. It’s about Cassie, who is a thirty-something-year-old stewardess who is a bit of an alcoholic. Everything kicks off when Cuoco’s Cassie wakes up to a dead body and has no idea how she got there.

In regards to taking on a serious role, Cuoco stated:

“It’s been an unbelievable experience to go from 12 years of such silly, fun comedy to something like this,” she explained. “In the later episodes, I’m very raw, crying with no makeup on and, like, completely breaking down. I didn’t think anyone would give me this opportunity, so I felt like I had to get the project made myself and prove that this is actually the kind of work I want to be doing.”

Are you excited for The Flight Attendant? The miniseries premieres on HBO Max on November 26th this year.
