Has Fox’s ‘Gambit’ Been Cancelled

It should come to no great surprise that X-Men’s Gambit movie is most likely not happening. After years of going back and forth between directors, screenwriters, and Channing Tatum, Fox is rumored to have cancelled the project all together. For fans of the X-Men franchise, this is pretty cruddy news. On top of this, it’s very possible that anticipated films like New Mutants and Dark Phoenix could never be seen.

Ever since Taylor Kitsch portrayed Remy Etienne LeBeau in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine, fans had been excited about the chance to see Remy get his own spin-off movie. Who wouldn’t have loved that? A devilish mutant deep in New Orleans, with charm and a hell of a magic trick to share with others.

This kind of back and forth has been going on since 2014. It’s one of those movies that looked like it was down in the toilet several times, with hope returning for fans when producer Simon Kinberg assured fans that this movie was happening. It isn’t like X-Men isn’t a successful franchise. Of course, there’s been some fails and critiques, but with how good Logan and the Deadpool movies have done, I would have thought the studio would move forward with films like Gambit, Dark Phoenix, and New Mutants. Especially after that awesome poster they had teased for the Phoenix movie.

Since it seems like the Disney/Fox merger is a guaranteed thing, Channing Tatum may not ever get a chance to play the character even if Kevin Feige decides to bring in Gambit in one of his movies. After all, Andrew Garfield didn’t transition over when Spider-Man was finally able to be brought into the MCU. This is all speculation of course, as we rarely know what’s really going on closed doors with these movie production studios. Are you bummed about this news or did you come to terms with it years ago?
