Winter is coming…again? Kind of… This summer has been as hot as dragon’s breath outside, which has had us dreaming of being north of the wall in the wintery locales. While we continue to daydream about vacations to fictional places, HBOMax has come through with a way to transport us in a different way.
This week, the streaming service announced that the entire eight-season run of the landmark HBO series Game Of Thrones is available on the platform in 4K Ultra HD, HDR 10, Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos globally on select devices. We might not be able to literally visit Westeros, but you can experience picture so vivid and audio so immersive that you can possibly trick yourself into believing you are there. Fans who have already picked up the Game Of Thrones Complete 4K Collection will already be familiar with the incredible benefits of these formats to the series, but fans can now get a taste included with their HBOMax subscription before investing in the physical set (still a wise investment).
Were you one of the people complaining that they could not see anything during “The Long Night” and all of its epic battle scenes? The HDR and Dolby Vision gives you the deep blacks you want to make out every silhouette lit by torchlight. Plus, you have not experienced the showdown at Blackwater or the “Battle Of Bastards” until you been surrounded by Dolby Atmos audio.
Not only did the service announce the upgrade for Game Of Thrones, but they have also confirmed all of these additional formats will be available for the prequel series House Of The Dragon when it premieres later this month on August 21. This is by far one of our most anticipated shows of the year, and we are thrilled to be able to see it in the best format from day one.
Just thinking about all of this is giving us a hankering for another rewatch. See if you are set up to reap the benefits of these upgrades: Select devices for these additional formats include:
