According to a new report, the HBO Max Friends reunion in large part came together because of Couretney Cox. The latest feature from Variety details the mega-popular sitcom process of the revival getting off the ground. The motivating force to getting co-stars to sign on ended up actually being Cox. At her Malibu beach last summer they all hash it out. Earlier that day Cox and WarnerMedia executives discussed the plans. Once HBO Max’s vision was laid out for the service, nostalgia and the actress’s cozy atmosphere did the rest. A night for reminiscing quickly took shape over dinner.
Green Blatt said: “Everyone was lending a hand because they had to and because it was exciting. But we knew we couldn’t move quickly if we were asking people to do two jobs. We had to fire up a network, in old-fashioned terms. ”
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Friends reunion will not be headlining the launch of HBO Max. Whenever health officials and the government say it is safe, the special will begin shooting. Don’t worry Friends fans it’s still coming, so are a lot of HBO Max originals expected for the first half of next year.
“Can the last lap of this all be done at home? Miraculously, the answer is yes” Greenblatt said. His team has been amazed at how much of these processes can be done at home. “It’s still shocking to me that it was all still able to carry on, even the side of it”.
Jennifer Anniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Mattery Perry and David Schwimmer despite the delay are all expected to return. Also rejoining the project are the series creators David Crane and Marta Kauffman. HBO Max positioned the Friends special for the early days of the service to position it as a massive draw for viewers. The company “showed the money” to get the streaming rights to the landmark show. On a recent appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show LeBlanc said the project was like, “the six of us together talking about the good old days.”
