Everything Coming To HBO Max In September 2026

HBO Max subscribers will have plenty to watch throughout September 2026.

The streamer has unveiled its upcoming monthly lineup, and September brings a mixture of new HBO Originals, high-profile movies, documentaries, returning reality programming and a substantial library refresh.

Among the biggest additions are Sharon Horgan’s new comedy series Youth, the 4 Blocks prequel 4 Blocks Zero, A24’s highly anticipated Backrooms and David Mackenzie’s action thriller Fuze starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson and Theo James.

Documentary fans also have several notable HBO projects arriving throughout the month, including A Killer Story, JAŸ-Z In 8, Siren: The Voices Of Shelley Beattie and the NFL Films documentary Miller Night Football.

Here are the biggest titles coming to HBO Max in September, followed by the complete schedule.

Youth Premieres September 20

Sharon Horgan leads HBO’s newest half-hour comedy series, Youth.

The eight-episode show follows a 50-year-old divorcee searching for sex and love while simultaneously caring for aging parents and dealing with a son who probably should have figured out adulthood by now.

Horgan stars alongside Sharlene Whyte, Rupert Friend, Aran Murphy and Robbie Gee.

Horgan also writes and executive produces the series, which comes from Merman, the production company behind projects including Bad Sisters and Amandaland.

The first two episodes debut Sunday, September 20, followed by one new episode each week.

4 Blocks Zero Arrives September 25

HBO Max is returning to the world of 4 Blocks with a new prequel series.

4 Blocks Zero takes place in 1990s Berlin and explores the early years of the Hamady family.

Malik Hamady has fled Lebanon with his four children and mother-in-law, hoping to provide a better life for his family in Germany. Instead, prejudice and the difficulties of everyday life make establishing that future increasingly difficult.

Things become even more complicated when Malik’s brother-in-law Ibrahim is released from prison after eight years.

Ibrahim brings a dangerous secret with him, and his growing involvement in Berlin’s criminal underworld places the entire Hamady family’s future at risk.

The eight-episode German HBO Original will debut new episodes weekly beginning September 25.

A Killer Story Examines A Decades-Long Murder Case

HBO continues its extensive true-crime documentary slate with A Killer Story on September 10.

The three-part documentary examines the case of Dana Chandler, who was accused of murdering her ex-husband and his girlfriend in 2002.

The case unfolded over more than two decades and eventually involved three trials.

What makes the story particularly complicated is the absence of forensic evidence and the competing narratives surrounding the crime.

The series explores family conflict, betrayal, prosecutorial misconduct, confirmation bias and the dangers of becoming too certain about a case where the complete truth may remain impossible to establish.

New episodes debut weekly.

JAŸ-Z In 8 Begins September 18

One of September’s biggest music documentaries comes from HBO Documentary Films.

JAŸ-Z In 8 brings Shawn Carter together with longtime friend, producer and director Rick Rubin for an extended look back at more than three decades of music and cultural influence.

The eight-part series arrives 30 years after the release of Reasonable Doubt and uses conversations and listening sessions to revisit Jay-Z’s career, creative process and personal journey.

The series includes discussion of songs and albums spanning his catalog, including tracks such as “99 Problems,” “Brooklyn’s Finest” and “4:44.”

Two episodes will premiere weekly beginning September 18.

Siren: The Voices Of Shelley Beattie Debuts September 22

HBO Documentary Films will also debut Siren: The Voices Of Shelley Beattie on September 22.

The documentary began with Marlee Matlin discovering the story of athlete Shelley Beattie, another deaf woman whose experiences contained remarkable parallels with Matlin’s own life.

Both women experienced fame and extraordinary opportunities while also confronting discrimination, addiction and abuse within a predominantly hearing world.

Directed by Irene Taylor, the film explores the connections between their lives while focusing on themes of strength, identity and resilience.

Miller Night Football Revisits Dennis Miller’s Unlikely NFL Experiment

Football fans will get a very different kind of sports documentary on September 29.

Miller Night Football is the first installment in HBO’s 2026 series of “NFL Shorts.”

The film revisits comedian Dennis Miller’s unexpected arrival in the Monday Night Football broadcast booth in 2000 alongside Al Michaels and former quarterback Dan Fouts.

Miller’s hiring was intended to bring a different audience and a new energy to one of television’s most recognizable sports broadcasts.

His unusually cerebral style of comedy also made him one of the strangest experiments in NFL broadcasting history.

Fuze Hits HBO Max September 4

Action fans won’t have to wait long for one of September’s biggest movie additions.

Fuze begins streaming September 4.

Aaron Taylor-Johnson stars as bomb disposal commander Will Tranter after the discovery of a massive explosive forces an evacuation across the city.

While Tranter races to prevent a disaster, Theo James’ criminal mastermind Karalis uses the evacuation as cover for a carefully planned bank robbery.

The situation turns into a three-way conflict involving Tranter, Karalis and police chief Zuzana.

Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sam Worthington also star in the David Mackenzie-directed thriller.

Backrooms Comes To HBO Max September 25

A24’s Backrooms is likely to be one of September’s biggest movie draws.

The movie begins when a strange doorway appears inside the basement of a furniture showroom.

On the other side is an apparently endless network of interconnected rooms where normal concepts of time and space begin falling apart.

Getting lost is only part of the problem.

Something may be waiting inside.

The film stars Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Mark Duplass, Finn Bennett and Lukita Maxwell.

Kane Parsons directs from a screenplay by Will Soodik, adapting the viral series Parsons originally created.

The producing team includes James Wan, Shawn Levy, Osgood Perkins and Peter Chernin.

September 1 Brings A Huge Horror Movie Collection

Anyone already preparing for Halloween will have plenty to choose from beginning September 1.

HBO Max is adding a large collection of horror and thriller titles including Brian De Palma’s Carrie, Final Destination, Final Destination 2, The Final Destination, Gremlins, Gremlins 2: The New Batch, Misery, Interview with the Vampire, The Craft and Blumhouse’s Truth or Dare.

A24 fans also get Pearl, MaXXXine and Talk to Me.

Other major additions include A Clockwork Orange, Full Metal Jacket, Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, Rain Man, The Revenant, The Last Samurai, Speed, Mission: Impossible, War of the Worlds, Zombieland and Zombieland: Double Tap.

What Should You Watch First?

September has several strong entry points depending on what you’re looking for.

Horror fans should probably start with the September 1 library drop. Carrie, Final Destination, Misery, The Craft, Talk to Me, Pearl and MaXXXine make HBO Max an easy destination for anyone beginning their Halloween viewing early.

Among the new films, Backrooms is arguably the month’s biggest curiosity. Kane Parsons taking the viral concept into a full A24 feature with Chiwetel Ejiofor and Renate Reinsve gives the movie plenty of potential beyond its internet origins.

Fuze should satisfy anyone looking for a straightforward action thriller, especially with Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Theo James, Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Sam Worthington involved.

On the television side, Youth gives Sharon Horgan another opportunity to build a messy, funny adult comedy around relationships and family, while 4 Blocks Zero expands an established crime-drama universe in a completely different period.

The documentary slate may be the strongest part of the month, though.

From a controversial decades-long murder case to Jay-Z reflecting on 30 years of music, Shelley Beattie’s remarkable life and Dennis Miller’s strange stint in the Monday Night Football booth, HBO is offering four very different nonfiction stories throughout September.

Between those originals, A24’s Backrooms and one of the largest horror-heavy catalog drops of the year, HBO Max subscribers should have no shortage of options heading into fall.
