HBO has officially renewed its original drama series IT: Welcome to Derry for a second season. The Warner Bros. Television production, executive produced by filmmakers Andy and Barbara Muschietti, will continue its expansion of Stephen King’s iconic universe under the guidance of showrunner Brad Caleb Kane.
Since its debut, the series has ranked among the top four series premieres globally in HBO Max history. The complete eight-episode first season is currently available to stream on HBO Max.
Critics have responded with strong praise. Variety called it “a masterfully woven, intricate psychological horror.” USA Today described the show as “powerful and gripping,” while Decider labeled it a “thrilling must watch.” Forbes highlighted its visual ambition, The Seattle Times called it “horrifically mesmerizing,” and The New York Times singled out Andy Muschietti’s direction for serving up “a perfect nightmare of mounting panic and terror.”

Season Two: Into the 1930s
Season two of IT: Welcome to Derry is set in 1935 during the Great Depression. It centers on the bloody massacre of the Bradley Gang, a group of bank robbers who stop in Derry to buy ammunition and encounter unimaginable horror. The story remains rooted in the world of Stephen King’s novel It and continues the vision established by Andy Muschietti in the feature films IT and IT Chapter Two.
