One was primarily being that there were so many people getting a say, which we have seen recently with studios interfering and not letting the directors work.
“We did our best, but there’s so many voices that go into these things and they’re not always going to work out,” Harbour stated, “I did what I could do and I feel proud of what I did, but ultimately I’m not in control of a lot of those things.”
Harbour went on to say that what some didn’t like about the Hellboy reboot resulted in comparing the movie to Marvel films:
“The problem that I have with comic book movies nowadays is that I think, and it’s a result of the power of Marvel stuff, it’s like chocolate, it’s a flavor. I sort of want a world where there’s more flavors than just comparisons to chocolate. So in that way when Hellboy is viewed on the chocolate spectrum, it does very poorly. That being said, it also has major problems.”
Speaking of Marvel, Harbour has been cast in the upcoming Black Widow in an undisclosed role so it will be interesting to see how his experience is with the MCU. Regardless, Harbour has a point that not every action film has to follow the same format as the Marvel movies and for fans to constantly make comparisons is unfair. We particularly liked Hellboy and you can check out our review here. What did you think of the Hellboy reboot?
