According to THR, a reimagining of Clive Barker’s 1987 horror classic Hellraiser will be produced and written by David S. Goyer. This will be done through Spyglass; Spyglass’s chairman and CEO Gary Barber commented on the decision to bring in Goyer, who is known for his work on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy and Man of Steel, as well as many others. Barber credited Goyer with being the right person for this task.

Barber stated:

“For generations, his (Barker’s) brilliantly twisted and imaginative Hellraiser haunted the minds of moviegoers with its searing imagery of Pinhead.”

Hellraiser originally told the tale of a wife who was unfaithful, who attempt to help her dead lover escape from hell. A race of demons called Cenobites was introduced and Pinhead was the most notable; a character who was summoned by using an antique puzzle box.

Goyer himself stated:

“Having the chance to reimagine Pinhead and the Cenobites for a new audience is a nightmare-come-true. Gary is a true fan as well and we’re committed to making something dark and visceral.”
