A man and woman embrace in a cozy, vintage living room with warm lighting. The room features a patterned wallpaper, bookshelves, lamps, and a television.

Reuniting the director, writer and stars of Forrest Gump, HERE is an original film about multiple families and a special place they inhabit. The story travels through generations, capturing the most relatable of human experiences. Robert Zemeckis (Forrest Gump, Cast Away, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Contact, Back to the Future) directs from a screenplay by Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, Killers of the Flower Moon, Dune: Part One, A Star is Born) and him. Told much in the style of the acclaimed graphic novel by Richard McGuire on which it is based, TOM HANKS and ROBIN WRIGHT star in a tale of love, loss, laughter and life all of which happen right Here.

    Video Quality

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment brings Here to Blu-Ray with a great 1080p video presentation that represents this one perfectly. Black levels are strong with no obvious instances of digital noise or crush, and highlights are firm with no blooming at play. The image is crisp and clear with a bold color palette that saturates the frame. The film serves up effective splashes of colors within the clothing, production design, and evolving environment which adds welcome vibrancy to the screen. Due to the nature of the fixed camera, there is not as much discrete detail on display as we are more removed from the action, although everything is as crisp as it is supposed to be. This Blu-Ray is an accurate representation of the film.

    Audio Quality

This Blu-Ray comes with a favorable DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that captures every minor element with an assured hand. The dialogue is the star of the show as it comes through without being clipped by any parallel sounds. The occasional active moment sneaks up on you and engages the surround speakers well. Ambient details are given decent support to expand the setting. The score from Alan Silvestri sets the stage for your emotions as it flows from the speakers in a full, well-balanced way. The low end of the track is not a scene-stealer, but it comes alive when it needs to. The audio track is a fine presentation for this feature in all respects. Optional English, English SDH, and Spanish subtitles are provided.

Family in a festively decorated living room unwraps gifts around a Christmas tree, surrounded by holiday decorations and wrapping paper.

    Special Features

    • How We Got Here: A 20-minute featurette in which the cast and creative team discuss reuniting for this project, the visual effects work, the journey of the characters, the themes of this story, and more.
    • Deleted Scenes: There are nine unused scenes totaling just over nine minutes provided here.

    Final Thoughts

Here is the latest example of the once-great Robert Zemeckis leaning on technology while sacrificing the genuine heart his movies once held so dearly. The core concept is one that could likely work under the right conditions, but the strict adhesion to a fixed camera and the digital de-aging technology keeps the audience at an emotional distance. The script is likewise not doing the film any favors as it takes a very heavy-handed approach that seems intended to manipulate the viewer rather than touching on something honest. There are moments that work as intended, but the film does not hold together as a satisfying, cohesive whole. Sony Pictures has provided a Blu-Ray disc that sports a fantastic A/V presentation and a small array of supplements.

Here is currently available to purchase on Blu-Ray, DVD and Digital.
