Launching into stores in this galaxy on May 7, 2024, courtesy of Graphic Universe, an imprint of Lerner Publishing Group, “HOTELITOR” promises an interstellar escapade like no other. Hicks, renowned for his witty and incisive storytelling, delivers a hilarious narrative that takes readers on a rollicking ride through the cosmos aboard the most extravagant hospitality craft to grace the stars.

Set in a distant future where hyperspace travel is the norm, “HOTELITOR” introduces us to a world where luxury knows no bounds and the line between extravagance and absurdity blurs. Picture this: jet feet, a hyperspace engine, and accommodations ranging from single rooms to opulent adjoining suites—all aboard a spacecraft designed to cater to every whim and desire of its guests.

But “HOTELITOR” is more than just a spacefaring hotel—it’s a searing satire that cleverly lampoons the excesses and contradictions of late-stage capitalism. Through a cast of colorful characters and absurd situations, Hicks deftly skewers the relentless pursuit of profit at the expense of basic human needs, all while keeping readers entertained with his signature brand of humor.

At the heart of “HOTELITOR” lies a sharp commentary on consumerism, corporate greed, and the commodification of everything from space travel to hospitality. With wit as sharp as a laser beam, Hicks takes aim at the absurdities of our capitalist society, inviting readers to laugh along while also reflecting on the deeper issues at play.

Whether you’re a seasoned sci-fi aficionado or simply in need of a good laugh, “HOTELITOR” promises to be an unforgettable voyage through the cosmos. When a giant alien attacks the ship, Hotelitor’s surviving guests and staff find themselves stranded in deep space, where 18-year-old intern Anna Greene must take charge. Alongside her fellow entry-level service workers, she’ll try to control the chaos while rival factions emerge, wealthy VIPs seize hotel resources, and the musician-in-residence develops a literal cult following. As Anna and her friends search for a way home, shocking discoveries about Hotelitor’s owners await them—that is, if another giant alien doesn’t smash the crew first. Welcome to the worst first job in the universe!

“Hotelitor is super influenced by classic mecha manga like Mazinger Z and tokusatsu media like Ultraman and Godzilla, but it’s also informed by my own history of bad temp jobs and student work placement debacles,” said creator Josh Hicks. “It’s a very silly book about a giant robot hotel, but it’s also essentially a power fantasy about low-level service workers getting to punch out their boss with a robot and redefining their relationship to labor by flying off into space. Basically, it’s high literature.”

Here’s what people are saying about Hotelitor:

“A razor-sharp and action-packed science fiction romp that tackles social issues with aplomb.” — Kirkus Reviews

“A clever, high-octane graphic novel satire of the bourgeois and proletariat.” — Publishers Weekly

“Hicks delivers a sharp story about the service industry, social classes, and corporate greed.” — School Library Journal

“It turns out a hotel-slash-giant mecha was exactly what I needed in my life. How could I have known? HOTELITOR arrives with genuine heart, widescreen action, an ax to grind with capitalism and the finest in trans-galactic accommodation. Book your stay today!” — Mat Groom, writer of Inferno Girl Red

“Hotelitor is one of the funniest sci-fi comics we’ve ever read, and Josh’s cartooning is a delight for the eyes.”—Sarah Graley and Stef Purenins, authors of Our Super Adventure

“A hilarious, fist-pumping, heartwarming genre mashup across the universe, with bright and beautiful artwork and characters. Pacific Rim meets Fawlty Towers… only good.” —Hamish Steele, creator of Netflix’s Dead End: Paranormal Park

Hotelitor will be available in stores on May 7, 2024. The trailer is now live on YouTube.
