Potential Spoilers:
The Hulk has been all over the map in his comic book history both literally and figuratively. He has been bad, been good, been misunderstood (hey, that rhymes) and been pissed off more times than can be counted. And of course, as everyone knows the madder he gets the stronger he gets. In the past, when the Hulk got to be beyond people’s control, they have made plans to deal with the situation. This was the case in the past when a gamma bomb caused him to lose control and attack Vegas. His rage was such that the Illuminati, who originally consisted of Tony Stark, Namor the Submariner, Reed Richards, Doctor Strange, Black Bolt, and Charles Xavier (see New Avengers:Illuminati, May 2006) decided he was too dangerous to stay on Earth and devised a way to send him into space. This lead to the Planet Hulk saga which part of Thor Ragnarok was loosely based on. Needless to say that in the comics, the Hulk’s main motivation to return to Earth was to get revenge on those who shot him into space.
Spoilers ahead! You have been warned. Don’t be like the Captain of the Titanic, heed the warnings given. Otherwise push forward once more into the breech.
Flash forward to 2018 and the The Immortal Hulk. In this story, a malevolent, incorporeal entity with the face of Brian Banner, who is Bruce’s abusive father, possessed Sasquatch. When the Hulk absorbed the energy from Sasquatch in order to take his powers from him, the entity moved onto the Hulk.
As the Avengers battle the Hulk, Thor notices the change that has come over him since the entity has taken control. He tells Captain America:
He…he is stronger than he was,” Thor tells Captain America. “Vastly so. He…he sees the naked souls of men…smells the lies in our hearts, hidden even from ourselves…You live in the mortal world, Steve Rogers…of science and law, of what you can perceive……but I live in a world of legend and symbol. The world of the gods. I am suggesting, Captain…that in its rage, its pain, in the shadow of its armageddon……your world may have produced something very close to a god. Or a devil, perhaps.
As they battle, they realize that defeating this stronger more savage Devil-Hulk will require a weapon of almost Atomic proportion to have a chance to defeat him. Reluctantly they use this weapon and he succumbs but they know that it would not be long before he is healed. They then decided to turn the Hulk over to the Hulk’s old Nemesis Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross who has put together a team to deal with the Hulk. Their solution? They go with the “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” procedure and dismember him.
Now, if being shot into space made him a little peevish, at some point when he can pull himself back together, how upset will he be when he finds out they turned him into the Immortal Hulk Put Together Kit?”
How do you feel about this story line where the Avengers decide if you can’t beat him, chop him up into little pieces? Yes, I know THEY didn’t do it but I doubt the Hulk will care when he is reassembled. Share your Immortal Hulk opinions at GVNation.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
