How Gaming Has Been Evolving Thanks to Modern Tech

Even though it may be hard to believe, the very first video games emerged on the scene in the 1950s. Of course, these were straightforward games played on minicomputers with mini frames and very outdated graphics, at least when compared to more video games we have today. One of the very first video games to appear is Spacewar! and older generations probably remember this game.

Spacewar! was designed and programmed by Stevel Russel in 1962. It was programmed for the DEC PDP-1 computer, which back in the day was used at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology). Over the next several years, the game was updated several times, and even new versions were released as more people joined the program.

Even older than Spacewar! is Bertie the Bran, released in 1950. Josef Kates developed the game, and the first version of the game was released on the 25th of August 1950. Speaking of old games, we also have to mention OXO from 1952 and Tennis for Two in 1958.

How Video Gaming Evolved with the Times?

Depending on who you ask, OXO is considered the oldest video game. Some may also say that Tennis for Two is the oldest game. Either way, if it was not for these games, the modern video gaming industry may look very different. This leads us to the main topic: how modern tech revolutionized the whole video gaming industry.

When we take a look at other thriving entertainment industries, it is pretty evident that the evolution of video gaming has been one of the fastest. Even though the video gaming industry did not exist at all until the late 1950s, it has improved so dramatically in the last two decades, and one of the significant factors contributing to the overall video gaming evolution must be technology.

The industry is so huge that we have significant eSports competitions and tournaments in place, and these are covered by sports betting sites, including those mentioned by playersbest. The same top-notch technology that video game developers also use is used in TV shows and movies. The main goal is always the same, to create a more engaging, more awe-inspiring fictional world for video gamers.

Modern Technologies Used in the Video Gaming Industry

According to this report by Yahoo, the global video gaming industry is expected to generate staggering returns of over US$435 billion six years from now. According to other accounts on the growth of the worldwide video gaming industry, the whole market generated staggering revenues of over US$201 billion in the twelve months of 2021. The video gaming industry is one of the most profitable entertainment sectors, but the road has been very challenging with many pitfalls and twists.

The industry had also changed a lot since the late 1950s when the first video games appeared on the scene. Most retro games were simple tic-to games with straightforward gaming sessions and not much happening during gaming sessions. The games we get to play today are powered by Virtual and Augmented Reality technologies that are making great strides in other industries as well. The games are also relying on 3D graphics.

Cloud gaming is also one of the most important trends today, and the same is valid for Artificial Intelligence, cross-platform, and mobile gaming. These are just some of the many modern technologies that have revolutionized the way games are made and played.
