The premiere of Fresh, a new horror film directed by Mimi Cave, lived up to the film’s name. Despite the dark nature of the film, the energy was positive as the team were very excited to share the disturbing take on modern dating with an audience for the first time.

Both inside and outside, the decor hinted at the film’s premise. Mallets, cleavers, and other butcher-shop fittings adorned interior walls. On theme, the refreshments served at the premiere included a truly impressive display of meats. A photo opportunity by the entrance invited guests to snap a picture of their own “Meat Cute”.

Co-presidents of Searchlight Pictures David Greenbaum and Matthew Greenfield introduced the screening. This film, co-produced along with Hyperobject Industries and Legendary Entertainment, is Searchlight’s first film to be released on Hulu. Greenbaum was proud, calling Fresh “wickedly funny, subversive, bold… it leaves you with a lot to digest.” Greenfield added, “it’s a complete meal.”

Greenfield then introduced Cave, who invited screenwriter Lauryn Kahn up to join her on stage, followed by Maeve Cullinane, co-producer, and Kevin Messick. Most of the cast was also in attendance, including Dayo Okeniki (Paul), Jojo T. Gibbs (Molly), Brett Dier (Chad), Sebastian Stan (Steve), and Daisy Edgar-Jones (Noa).

Cave’s final wishes to the audience were to “Enjoy this moment. Enjoy the ride.”

Fresh is available for streaming on Hulu as of March 4, 2022.
