Four young adults sit in a car at night, with a woman driving and the others looking ahead with serious expressions.

When five friends inadvertently cause a deadly car accident, they cover up their involvement and make a pact to keep it a secret rather than face the consequences. A year later, their past comes back to haunt them and they’re forced to confront a horrifying truth: someone knows what they did last summer…and is hell-bent on revenge. As one by one the friends are stalked by a killer, they discover this has happened before, and they turn to two survivors of the legendary Southport Massacre of 1997 for help.

For in-depth thoughts on I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025), please see my colleague Lane Mills’s review from its original theatrical release here.

    Video Quality

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) comes to Blu-Ray in its original 2.39:1 with a sterling transfer that does not come up short, even knowing that there is a 4K version on the market. While presumably not as flawless as the 4K UHD likely is (it was not made available to me for review), there is a stellar amount of depth and clarity to the picture with impeccable details coming through clearly. There is some rustic production design featured in the film along with stunning locales which you can really take in with this transfer. The film deploys a natural color palette with bold color saturation that dials in the hues to the correct shade. Skin tones all look very natural and provide a valuable amount of facial detail in close-ups. Black levels hold up well with little in the way of black crush or noise. The handful of fleeting instances of noise and banding are likely cleaned up on the 4K UHD Blu-Ray, so if you are capable, you should likely go with that option.

    Audio Quality

This Blu-Ray release boasts a DTS-HD 5.1 Master Audio track that delivers when it is called upon. The utilization of environmental effects comes through in a natural way to keep you on edge. There is a strong amount of activity in the low end which makes the thrills more visceral. Dialogue comes through clearly without getting obscured by the score or any sound effects. As the tension ramps up, the sounds effectively flow out of your side and rear speakers. Each sound is deftly placed with ideal spatial awareness. The track engages all of the active channels with panning effects and sounds of confrontation that really make you feel like you are in danger. This disc brings these thrilling moments to life with a depth and clarity of sound that is just perfect. Sony has come through for this one, so those with a good surround sound setup should enjoy this one. Although if you really want fully immersive sound, you will want to spring for the 4K UHD Blu-Ray which offers Dolby Atmos.

    Special Features

    • Outtakes & Bloopers: A nearly three-minute look at flubbed lines, malfunctioning props, and more.
    • Deleted & Extended Scenes: A brief selection of unused material is provided here.
    • Return to Southport – The Cast: A nine-minute featurette that looks at the return to this franchise through new and familiar faces and the ways in which they paid homage to the original films, the Fisherman, and more.
    • Chills, Kills & Thrills – Making a Thriller: A nearly eleven-minute look at the preparation that went into the production process including the execution of some spine-tingling set pieces.

    Final Thoughts

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is not the best horror film to come out this year, but it is an entertaining enough entry in a franchise that has been a bit rocky and ridiculous from the beginning. You have beautiful people making terrible decisions and paying the bloody consequences. Some of the dialogue is cringeworthy, but the direction of Jennifer Kaytin Robinson is generally assured as she balances the old and the new. It delivers enough fun to make it worth the time invested. Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has released a Blu-Ray featuring an excellent A/V presentation and a decent selection of special features. If you are a fan of the franchise and are capable, you might want to spring for the 4K UHD Blu-Ray, but this Blu-Ray is impressive in its own right. Recommended

I Know What You Did Last Summer (2025) is currently available to purchase on Digital platforms. It will be available on 4K UHD Blu-Ray, Blu-Ray, and DVD on October 7, 2025.
