Image Comics ‘Oblivion Song’ writer Robert Kirkman Confirms Series Pending End

All Good Things…

There are some comic series that are designed with the idea that they will go on as long as the fans support it. And then there are the ones where the creator has a plan in place for a finite number of issues. They have a story to tell and they structure their books to tell that story from beginning to end.

When it comes to Robert Kirkman’s Image Comic Series Oblivion Song, he obviously had a specific story arc in mind and the required issues to tell it. So in the Oblivion Song Issue#30 letters page, Kirkman let his readers know that his Oblivion Song saga was coming close to it’s conclusion. This was reiterated in this Press Release:

Press Release

PORTLAND, Ore. 02/24/2021 — Today Robert Kirkman confirmed the end of his apocalyptic comic book series Oblivion Song in the issue #30 letters page.

“If you’ve been paying attention to the buildup of this story from arc to arc, you might have suspected that we were nearing a natural end point…and we are. Issue #36 was always planned to be the final issue,” wrote Kirkman.

“When we conceived of this series, I thought of it as a trilogy of 12-issue arcs. Looking back, you can see the time jumps between #12 and #13, as well as #24 and #25, marked definitive chapter breaks along the way. That was by design.”
