Frankly, we all could use a good laugh. There is so much going on in the world, it’s hard to maintain a smile. Between the COVID-19 pandemic, police brutality, and new sexual assault allegations towards actors (looking at you, Ansel), how can we maintain a positive attitude?

By poking fun at things. When I came across a mock-trailer on YouTube, the title put me off a little. I’m sure it will for you as well. There are plenty of parody trailers, probably made even more popular by the page “Honest Trailers”. Well, this is a new trailer by Popcorned Planet titled “Die Hard: The Woke Version”. Automatically, you can probably tell that the trailer is teasing “woke culture” and this will clearly offend some people.

Honestly, though; it’s just funny. Sometimes, we need to poke fun at things. That is what parody videos are. They’re not made to be serious and that’s the case here. This trailer makes fun of the fact that you can find something problematic in almost every movie from before 2020. Whether controversy has arisen from something an actor or a director did. If Hollywood has learned that some tropes are tired and outdated. And if subject matters from past films are absolutely not relatable today. Everything talked about in this trailer is true, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good laugh.

This is why past films are in the past. You can look back on a movie like Die Hard and still enjoy it, even though it may have not held up that well in regards to social commentary. Scarface, to this day; is a highly revered film despite the fact that the actor playing a Cuban character is Italian. We understand that at that time, it was considered acceptable. We know better now. But, we can’t go back in the past and change anything. We must only move forward and continue to improve.

In the meantime, let’s just laugh. I guarantee if you just open yourself up to not taking this seriously, you’ll find it amusing. And in the end, you’ll realize that Alan Rickman stands up to the test of time. You’ll also find yourself saying “oh Thank God”.

Here is Die Hard: The Woke Version.
