Is The Peaky Blinders Universe Set To Expand Further?

One of the best things about the modern streaming age is the fact that when a series ends, that might not necessarily mean curtains for the franchise. Streaming services have realised that it makes more sense to create additional content, such as sequels and spin-offs, to keep the fandom alive.

Peaky Blinders ended after six seasons, but as one of the best things to come out of the UK in recent years, Netflix and the BBC knew that there was strong potential to expand the franchise further. With a spin-off film already released, there’s now talk of a future series in the Peaky Blinders universe.

Two New Series Reportedly in the Works

The great thing about long-running series is the way that they enable plenty of threads that could be explored further. Writers can choose to take a popular character from the original and create something that focuses solely on them, or they can take a different time period or setting within the universe and imagine that. There’s endless potential with Peaky Blinders, and creator Steven Knight already has some ideas.

According to a recent report, the BBC has already commissioned two spin-off series. The first one will be set after the events of World War II, and there has been some speculation that it could be led by Barry Keoghan. However, the actor who starred as Tommy Shelby’s son in The Immortal Man has acknowledged that Cillian Murphy’s lead would be an incredibly tough act to follow. Many think that Keoghan could be the one to do it, though, as he was hand-picked by Murphy himself for the film role.

Series Could Rival Breaking Bad and Walking Dead

Peaky Blinders is arguably the UK’s answer to some of the biggest American television franchises, such as Breaking Bad and The Walking Dead. With the flagship seasons of these being so popular, AMC decided to keep them alive through various spinoffs. Better Call Saul acted as a prequel to Breaking Bad, and some would argue that it’s even better than the original. The Walking Dead spawned offerings that explored different characters and settings in the post-apocalyptic universe.

These series were also helped by licensed games that allowed them to get in front of different demographics. These included casino slots like Breaking Bad: Cash Collect & Link and The Walking Dead Cash Collect. There are already some Peaky Blinders-themed products on the market, and adding more to the collection would help the franchise gain even more fame.

Positive Reviews for the Latest Film Release

The latest piece of content to enjoy in the Peaky Blinders universe is The Immortal Man, which recently dropped on Netflix. The movie has garnered strong reviews and highlights how the franchise is ready to enter a new era. It also introduced plenty of new characters who could have bigger parts to play in any future Peaky Blinders content.

The Peaky Blinders are not going anywhere just yet, and the universe that Knight created is set to get much bigger. If the spinoffs are successful, they could lead to others of their own and keep the franchise alive for many years.
