They say you never forget your first. This couldn’t be more horrifyingly true for once-carefree teen girl Jay (Maika Monroe, Longlegs). After a night of intimacy with Hugh (Jake Weary, “Animal Kingdom”), passion turns to paranoia when Hugh informs Jay that she is now the latest carrier of a fatal curse passed on through sex. As Jay is haunted by nightmarish visions, her teenage friends dismiss her ravings — until they also see the ghastly ghouls. Now they must band together to break the chain and help Jay escape the horrors that always seem to be lurking just a few steps behind in this chilling, offbeat cult classic.

Video Quality
It Follows has been given a sterling 2160p Dolby Vision transfer in its original 2.39:1 aspect ratio presented from a 4K remaster approved by director David Robert Mitchell and first seen on the Second Sight 4K UHD Blu-Ray release overseas in 2023. The film was shot digitally, but it never looks flat or lifeless thanks to a gorgeous, textured appearance. The color grade gives the film a bit more of a desaturated appearance to fit the cold and autumnal landscape. Even when dialing back the saturation, the application of Dolby Vision takes this film and enhances every hue to reach its intended shade. Black levels are first-rate with nothing in the way of crush present, and highlights show no signs of blooming. The disc always stands tall with its handling of contrast.
The master features some creative flourishes within the lighting, production design, and landscapes that unleash a valuable amount of depth. The degree of unique detail and clarity on display is exceptional as the photography captures every facet of the production design and every ridge of the costumes. This translates to more of the disgusting elements such as the gory makeup effects. The craft elements are a wicked treat, and this presentation materializes them with great immediacy. This transfer exhibits nothing in the way of damage or unwanted digital anomalies such as compression artifacts, banding, or any other such nuisances. This world feels expansive and lived-in thanks to the amazing depth of field. This presentation is a wonderful effort from Lionsgate.
Audio Quality
This 4K UHD Blu-Ray comes with a lively new Dolby Atmos track that captures this sonically dynamic film with great care. Dialogue comes through clearly in the front channel without being overshadowed by any sound effects or music. The creepy and layered sound design is just as vital to the movie as the visuals, and this track brings it to life with unbelievable dexterity. The film is filled to the brim with environmental effects that engage the surround and overhead speakers, making your head swivel to make sure you are alone in the room.
The movie showcases some intense moments that add weight to the low end. The track has an intricate and keen sense of directionality with sounds always emerging from the appropriate channels. The score from Disasterpeace is a highlight of the experience that always sets the right tone. There are absolutely no issues with fidelity or damage to the track. There is also a lossy Dolby Digital 5.1 track that is provided, but we cannot definitively discern if it is the original theatrical audio or the track that has been on previous home entertainment releases. This audio presentation does everything it needs to do. Optional English SDH and Spanish subtitles are provided.
Special Features
This release is available exclusively at Lionsgate Limited. It is presented in a sleek new SteelBook that is quite fetching in person. The SteelBook features a removable clear slipcase displaying the title of the film and a shadowy hand. The artwork underneath shows Jay looking over her shoulder with a hand reaching out, and the rear is an animated look at blood in a pool. The interior sports a still of the first victim in the movie. Video of the SteelBook can be found at the top of this review.

Final Thoughts
It Follows is a deeply unsettling horror drama that uses the dread of inevitability like few films in the genre have tackled in recent memory. The core threat is slow enough to get away from for a while – a long while if you use the right transportation – but it is always just a matter of time before it catches back up to you. Psychological dread is one of the subcategories of horror that is most likely to imprint upon you, and this film manifests it with impressive skill. Maika Monroe has since gone on to be one of our favorite performers in the horror space, and we are glad this movie gave her such a worthy breakthrough role. Lionsgate Home Entertainment has released a 4K UHD Blu-Ray set featuring a tremendous A/V presentation and a valuable assortment of special features. If you are a fan of the film, this is not to be missed. Highly Recommended
