No sex, please – we’re on our honeymoon! After a showgirl (Debbie Reynolds) and an Air Force sergeant (Glenn Ford) head to the altar on the basis of one torrid smooch, the bride begins having second thoughts. After all, marriage can’t be based on sexual chemistry alone. So she decrees a month of connubial celibacy to test if the newlyweds are really meant for each other. Think they’ll make the whole 30 days? Funny, frisky and (just a bit) risqué, Reynolds and Ford aren’t the only joys in this romantic comedy set in and around a Madrid U.S. air base. Other pluses include a strong supporting cast; exotic Spanish locales; and a glamorous, plot-promoting red Lincoln Futura, which found fame a few years later as TV’s Batmobile.

Video Quality
Warner Archive presents It Started With A Kiss with a dazzling new 1080p master transfer in 2.35:1 sourced from a 2K scan of the Interpositive. Warner Archive always steps up when they revisit their comedic gems, and this one is no exception. From beginning to end you are treated to such detail and clarity that it is almost unbelievable. This is due in part to the preservation of the natural film grain that bolsters the picture. The film features some delightful colors within the costumes and 50s production design that radiate off the screen with a great vibrancy. The film is virtually flawless with no noticeable instances of damage or dirt detected here. Highlights remain firm and black levels are incredibly deep and stable. Compression artifacts, banding and other such issues do not serve as an issue in this transfer. Warner Archive stands tall as a beacon of hope for fans of physical media.
Audio Quality
The Blu-Ray comes with a remastered DTS-HD 2.0 Master Audio track that is quite enjoyable and free of damage. Dialogue and background noises are balanced favorably along with the lovely score from Jeff Alexander. The dialogue comes through clearly with no elements overshadowing the zippy exchanges. The more kinetic, slapstick moments are handled well and give the track a bit of excitement. There is no discernible age related wear and tear to the track such as hissing, drop outs or popping. Warner Archive has provided a disc that sounds rock solid. There are also optional English (SDH) subtitles included for the feature film.

Final Thoughts
It Started With A Kiss does not rank at the top of classic slapstick rom-coms, but it is more charming than history has given it credit for. While we may have issues with how the Glenn Ford character is written at times, the performer does a lot of heavy lifting to keep him on the right side of charming. Debbie Reynolds has no such issues, as she remains radiant and inviting from beginning to end. The humor may be considered slight, but it is the type of lighthearted affair we appreciate from time to time. Warner Archive has released a stellar Blu-Ray that sports a top tier A/V presentation but not much in the way of special features. If you are a fan of any of the cast members or just want a lightly amusing romantic comedy, this one is worth a watch. Recommended
