Jason Scott Lee Joins Disney’s ‘Mulan’

We are still two years away from the scheduled 2020 release of the live-action version of Mulan and the cast continues to grow. The Hollywood Reporter has learned that actor Jason Scott Lee (Dragon, Lilo and Stitch) has joined the project to play a villainous Khan in the adaptation of one of Disney’s best animated movies. The original film was about a young woman, Mulan; who decides to dress as a man to take her father’s place in the battle against the Huns, who have invaded China. It’s an incredibly inspirational movie for all young women who can see the strength Mulan gains as she is figuring out her place in the world.

The live-action film is setting up to be different than the adaptation we all know and love; Mulan didn’t really have a love interest and if she did, it was only alluded to at the end with Captain Li Shang. In the 2020 version, Yoson An will play Chen Honghui – Mulan’s love interest. As for Jason Scott Lee, his character will be Bori Khan, a warrior leader whose mission is to avenge his father’s death. The story for the live-action Mulan may be different than the animated version, but what’s great about reincarnations is the interpretation. No matter how much we want to hold onto the 1998 version, we can still love that and have an open mind for the live-action movie.

Jason Scott Lee is best known for his work in Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story, as well as the 1994 live-action version of Jungle Book and Netflix’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon: Sword of Destiny. Mulan is scheduled to be released on March 27, 2020 and will star Yifei Liu as Mulan. As far as how much interaction Yifei Liu and Jason Scott Lee will have, we don’t know yet, but we are keeping our eyes peeled for more information as it comes our way!
