John Krasinski Reflects On His Loss To Chris Evans For Captain America

It’s hard to imagine anyone as Captain America other than Chris Evans. Prior to taking the mantle of one of Marvel’s most iconic superheroes, Evans had been best known for his work as another well-known Marvel character, Johnny Storm/ The Human Torch. Before then, he was in Not Another Teen Movie and The Perfect Score, alongside another MCU Alum, Scarlet Johansson. Since landing the role of Steve Rogers, Evans has shown us how prominent of an actor he is with movies like Puncture, Snowpiercer, and Gifted.

While we’ve come to know Evans as Captain America for the better part of a decade, how would you have felt about John Krasinski landing the role? Before wowing critics with Quiet Place, Krasinski was best known for his role as Jim Halpert on The Office. He’s currently ripped and ready for Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan as Jack Ryan himself, but would we have envisioned Krasinki as Captain America over seven years ago?

Krasinki’s agent informed him of losing the role to Chris Evans, to which he wasn’t too broken up about, “Yea, look at him. He’s Captain America,” he recalled in a sit down with Variety. It seemed John’s wife, Emily Blunt; was the most concerned for her partner, offering to cancel her birthday dinner due to the news. And being the humble husband he is, John of course decided not to cancel the birthday celebration.

Krasinki, though; got to try on a Captain America suit apparently. Though, it seemed that it was Chris Hemsworth who unintentionally caused the actor to feel himself unworthy of the role, “all of a sudden Chris Hemsworth walked by as Thor and was like, ‘Hey mate!’ And I’m like…‘I’m good. This is stupid. It’s OK. I’m not Captain America. It’s fine.’”

Now while I’m sure Hemsworth didn’t mean to cause any sort of doubt in Krasinki’s mind, I’m also sure that it isn’t hard to feel slightly insecure when Thor himself walks in the room. While we’ll never known what John Krasinski might have been as Steve Rogers, we can see that he’s much more than Jim from his days on The Office. If you haven’t watched the Quiet Place, he plays the main character alongside his wife Emily Blunt and is being hailed as one of the most innovative horror movies of today. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan will be released on Amazon August 31st of this year.
