Jon Bernthal teases playing Little Mac from Nintendo’s Classic ‘Punch-out’

Rugged actor Jon Bernthal has played many tough guys in his career. He has played a comic book anti-hero in the Punisher and as video game character Cole Walker in the recently released Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. With that in mind, Bernthal was recently asked in an interview with Digital Trends, if there is another video game character he would like to tackle. His answer might be surprising.

What I’ve been playing with the kids is Mike Tyson’s Punch-Out. Little Mac, he’s really small, but that would be really cool I think — his rise up through the ranks.

For those of you unfamiliar, Little Mac was the diminutive playable character who had to defeat a number of colorful foes in his search for the title. This would inevitably lead to a climatic bout with “Iron” Mike Tyson. I remember it well.

While the premise of bringing a Punch-Out based film might seem to be a bit far-fetched, in the current landscape where reboots and sequels abound, who knows. In fact, the Detective Pikachu writers  have expressed interest in writing a Super Smash Bros film. Since Little Mac is a playable character in the series, that perhaps wouldn’t preclude Bernthal’s idea of playing the struggling boxer.

Would an adaptation of Nintendo’s Punch-Out intrigue you? Especially if it involved the popular Bernthal? Share your thoughts about the possibility with us at GeekVibesNation.
