Just like ‘Harry Potter,’ JK Rowling Has Fantastic Beasts All Planned Out

When J.K Rowling wrote the Harry Potter novels, she pretty much had a plan in place where the story would go as she wove her way through seven novels and her fans hearts. With that in mind, it comes as no surprise that when J.K. Rowling announced that the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise would span over five movies total and that she has the entire story planned out. Rowling explained saying:

As with the ‘Harry Potter’ books, it is all mapped out. In fact, when we announced the five films, I talked about that. It’s always possible that some details will change along the way, but the arc of the story is there. It’s been an amazing opportunity to tell parts of the backstory that never made it into the original books. I’m thinking particularly of one character that I think fans will be surprised to meet in this movie.”

A large part of the charm of the Fantastic Beasts movies to this point is that fans of ‘Harry Potter’ were already familiar with certain aspects of the franchise. Names like Newt Scamander and Gellert Grindelwald were referenced more than once in the Harry Potter saga. This made the film feel like visiting old friends while also learning new characters along the way. Rowling admitted that she had contemplated ideas during the Potter books  about how the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ story would fit into the ‘Potter’ universe as a whole when it came to fruition.

Since there is no rest for the weary, even though the second chapter of the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ franchise is just weeks away from release, Rowling is already hard at work penning the screenplay for the third film. While she believes she has the whole story basically worked out, there are always details and events that can prove to be problematic, even for someone as prolific as Rowling. In fact, the author decided to discuss her writing issues on Twitter:

As a writer (although nowhere in the league of Miss Rowling), I certainly understand the times when an idea just won’t focus into clarity.Maybe that Pensieve thing is a good idea. Where can you get one? Diagon Alley? The Pottermore store?? EBay??? Craigslist??….Nevermind.
