When we think about casinos and the classic card games found within, one that instantly springs to mind is Poker. Having stood the test of time and remained popular through many centuries, Poker can be found on casino floors both within land-based establishments as well as online.
With Poker being as popular as ever, it may surprise you to know, that many players that enter a casino do not opt to play the game due to their lack of understanding of the hands of Poker and what’s required in order to secure a win. High Card
The lowest-ranked of all the hands. When you have no winning combination within your hand, the highest card is classed as your ‘best hand’. For example, if you were to hold a hand consisting of; Four of Hearts, Six of Clubs, Eight of Diamonds, Three of Spades and the King of Diamonds; the King of Diamonds would be the card to act as your ‘best hand’.
Pair
A Pair is simply a hand that contains two cards of the same value, of different suits. For example, a hand that contains the Jack of Spades, Jack of Hearts and three miscellaneous cards.
Pairs
A hand that contains two pairs of cards of the same values, but different suits, is known as ‘Pairs’. An example of this is a hand that contains a Jack of Hearts, Jack of Spades, Five of Hearts, Five of Clubs and a miscellaneous card.
Three of a Kind
When your hand contains three cards of the same value, all of different suits, this is known as Three of a Kind. An example of this is the Queen of Hearts, Queen of Diamonds, Queen of Clubs and two miscellaneous cards.
Straight
When your cards are in numerical order, but not of the same suit, this is known as a Straight. An example of this is Ten of Hearts, Nine of Diamonds, Eight of Clubs, Seven of Clubs and Six of Spades.
Flush
A Flush is a hand that contains cards all of the same suit but not in numerical order. For example, Five of Hearts, Seven of Hearts, Ten of hearts, Jack of Hearts and Ace of Hearts.
Full House
When your hand contains Three of a Kind as well as a Pair, this is known as a Full House. For example, Queen of Hearts, Queen of Diamonds, Queen of Spades, Ten of Clubs and Ten of Hearts.
Four of a Kind
When your hand is comprised of four of the same value but altering suit as well as one miscellaneous card, this is known as Four of a Kind. For example, Jack of Clubs, Jack of Diamonds, Jack of Spades, Jack of Hearts and Five of hearts.
Straight Flush
A Straight Flush is comprised of five cards of the same suit, in numerical order. For example, Five of Hearts, Six of Hearts, Seven of Hearts, Eight of Hearts and Nine of Hearts.
Royal Flush
The highest hand a player can hold, a Royal Flush is comprised of five cards, all of the same suit, in numerical order containing card royalty. A Royal Flush must consist of an Ace, King, Queen, Jack and Ace of the same suit.
