MGM is officially purchasing Ridley Scott’s Gucci, which is a true-crime drama centering around the killing of Maurizio Gucci. In this adaptation of The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed, Lady Gaga will portray Patrizia Reggiani. She is currently in negotiations for the role that MGM beat Netflix out for. According to THR, Scott chose to go with MGM due to the potential of a theatrical release.
As Reggiani, Gaga will play Gucci’s ex-wife, convicted of orchestrating the hit on Gucci after the reveal of his affair. Roberto Bentivegna has penned the script after the novel written by Sara Gay Forden and published by William Morrow in 2001.
Giannina Scott, who will produce the project with her husband Ridley, stated:
“This project has long been a labor of love for both Ridley and me. The story is so epic, the stakes so high and the characters so richly drawn that we were determined to get it to the big screen. To say we are thrilled to be teaming with Mike De Luca and his brilliant film group at MGM is an understatement. We can’t wait to see this come to life next year.”
MGM’s head Michael De Luca has set a Gucci release date for November 24, 2021 and has stated:
“Nothing typifies bold, audacious originality more than a film by Ridley Scott. All of us at MGM are incredibly excited to be in business with Ridley, Giannina, Kevin and the whole team at Scott Free.”
