The moment that fans have been waiting for is almost here. After years of being away from the Law and Order crew, Christopher Meloni will finally reprise his role as Detective Elliot Stabler. This reunion will happen in season 22 of Law and Order: SVU and according to showrunner Warren Leight, it won’t just be a small reunion between Stabler and his old partner, Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson.
“It’s not just about the SVU season opener, it’s how do we help launch the new series and how much crossover will there be between Elliot and Olivia as the season goes on.”
Stabler won’t be an SVU detective, since the character turned in his badge and gun in season thirteen. He’s been occasionally mentioned, but we haven’t seen him since Meloni left the show due to money issues. According to previous reports, Stabler will be leading the NYPD’s Organized Crime Division.
