Lindsay Clancy in court during her Massachusetts murder trial before the judge declared a mistrial

After days of deliberation, a judge has declared a mistrial in the highly publicized Lindsay Clancy case. It was reported that there was one [male] juror holding out, while the other 11 jurors were ready to move forward with a not-guilty verdict. After being unable to come to a unanimous decision, Judge William Sullivan has declared a mistrial. Sullivan has granted Clancy’s defense an hour to appeal to a higher court, as the defense fought hard against a mistrial.

What the Lindsay Clancy Trial Was Deciding

The Clancy case was not about determining whether or not she had murdered her three children back in 2023 – it was instead to determine whether she was criminally responsible for the deaths of Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. The defense has fought hard to prove that Clancy was not criminally responsible, claiming postpartum psychosis is the reason she killed her children in 2023 with exercise bands and while she attempted to kill herself, leaving her permanently in a wheelchair.

Jury Reportedly Deadlocked After Days of Deliberations

Judge Sullivan received his first note that the jury was deadlocked after the fourth day of deliberations and then again on the 5th day. Under Massachusetts state laws, a judge can only ask the jury to go back to deliberating twice, unless it consents to further deliberations.
