Live Action Anticipation: My Top 5 Most Anticipated Disney Live Action Movies

For the past few years, Disney has been on a kick of re-making animated classic movies into live action adaptations. From Cinderella to the Jungle Book, to Beauty and the Beast to most recently release, Christopher Robin. And Disney has revealed plans for many more live action films that are either in production or in the works. I know there are people out there who think Disney should stick to original content and not touch the classics, and I can 100% see their point; however, with the success of films like Beauty and the Beast and Christopher Robin, I’m slowly jumping to the side of thinking Disney should re-make the classics. And if the films keep doing this good, Disney would be silly to not keep re-making the movies. So for this article, I figured it would be a fun idea to rank my top 5 live action re-makes I’m most excited for, and without further adieu, I present number 5…

5: The Little Mermaid

While there is already a Little Mermaid live action on Netflix, and another that is set to star Chloe Grace Moretz, the one I’m excited for is the official Disney retelling that will showcase music from the talented Lin Manuel Miranda and the original songwriter for the film, Alan Menken. In terms of what we know about the movie, that’s it. Although, there have been talks going around that Lindsay Lohan wants to play Ariel, which would be quite the return to Disney films for Lohan.

4. Cruelle de Vil

I was 100% in on a Cruella de Vil remake from the get go. Then Disney went out and cast my favorite actress to star in the movie. If I’d be anymore in on this movie, I’d be a part of the cast and crew. Emma Stone as Cruella de Vil will be cinematic gold, I can guarantee that. Plus it’s expected to be an origin story, so we get to find out the reasons that mad Cruella the villain she is. It’ll take place in 1970’s London, feature a lot of punk rock, and will be directed by Alex Timbers (Mozart in the Jungle)…what’s not to love?!

3. Lady and the Tramp

Who doesn’t love a movie centered on dogs? Also, who doesn’t love this instant classic film? When I heard the news this was getting a remake, I was over the moon excited. Then, this week, we started getting more details on the film: Justin Theroux will voice Tramp, Ashley Jensen will be playing the female version of Jock, Kiersey Clemons will play Darling, and it will release exclusively on Disney’s streaming service in late 2019! Here’s to hoping they recreate the iconic Bella Notte scene!

2. Aladdin

Y’all. This cast though. Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmine, but most importantly, WILL SMITH AS THE GENIE!! The film brings back Alan Menken to do the music, Guy Ritchie will direct, and it’ll be a musical! If we can all be real here for a minute, this film is going to absolutely kill it, and we don’t have to wait much longer for it! It’s scheduled to release on May 24th, 2019!

1. The Lion King

Peep my bio, did you really have to guess what was going to be number 1? I have a baby Simba tattooed on my wrist, 1/4 of my shirts are related to The Lion King, and it’s my all time favorite movie…one could say I’m a little excited. I’m also a little worried. Even though I said I was on the live action remake boat, there are some things that are too precious to mess with and The Lion King is one of those things. However, I feel pretty good knowing that Jon Favreau is directing it, and seeing the cast Disney assembled for this iconic movie: Donald Glover, Beyonce, Seth Rogan, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Keegan Michael Key, Billy Eichner, John Kani, JD McCray, and THE OG MUFASA, Jame Earl Jones. Honestly, typing that list gave me goosebumps. This movie is going to be a masterpiece, iconic, and I will 100% weep the entire time. July 19th, 2019, The King Returns.

So there you have it! Did I miss your favorite live action remake? Let me know below in the comments!
