Lou Diamond Phillips to Direct a Season Six ‘Marvel’s Agents of Shield’ episode

When it was announced that Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D was renewed for Season Six, and later Season Seven, that was about all anyone knew. Eventually more details emerged, including that the Son of Coul himself, Clark Gregg would be directing the premier episode. However, Gregg was not the only guest director they decided to enlist as Lou Diamond Phillips of LaBamba fame was also brought aboard to direct a yet to be named episode. This is not Phillip’s first rodeo as he has directed episodes of Longmire, in which he also starred, The Twilight Zone and recently, Fear of the Walking Dead.

In fact, it was while directing FOTWD that he got the call to direct a S.H.I.E.L.D episode. It didn’t take him long to decide, as he explained to Entertainment Weekly:

I got the call when I was directing Fear of the Walking Dead down in Austin: ‘Would you direct an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.?’ ‘Yeah, done.’ Instant answer, because of the world, because it’s Marvel. It’s big. It’s comic-book stuff. It’s action. It’s mythology. It’s science-fiction. It’s all of that rolled into one. And of course my old friend Ming-Na was on it. That’s crazy, that’s wonderful!

Phillips and Agents of Shield star Ming-Na Wen had previously worked together making Stargate Universe so she was excited when she heard the news:

When they told me he was directing, I was just so happy. We had so much fun [on Stargate]. That was a very special two years for us up in Vancouver — for me, Lou, and the whole entire crew.

Clark and Phillips are just two among the others chosen to direct as they also enlisted their show VFX supervisor Mark Kolpack, and executive producer Garry Brown to helm an episode.  Are you ready for Marvel’s Agents of  S.H.I.E.L.D to return to duty in May? What will happen to Fitz, still floating in a cryogenic chamber somewhere in space? Who is the mysterious person running about who looks just like Agent Coulson? We will soon see.
