The following recap will contain spoilers for the first six episodes of season six of Love Is Blind.
Last season’s Love Is Blind arc was a hot mess. There were many superficial couples all clearly there for the wrong reasons, and by the time the season ended, only one couple had gotten married. Fans practically begged production to put the love back into Love Is Blind only to be met with people more obsessed with gaining followers than romance, but it seems the pendulum is finally swinging back – or at least it is on its way to.
Season six of Love is Blind premiered on Valentine’s Day, and the first six episodes were interesting, to say the least. The singles that they chose this time around appeared to have more chemistry, though as we quickly found out, looks can be deceiving. No one proved this more than Matthew. At first, he gave off a demeanor of being Type-A and rude in the way that he doesn’t talk to the guys, has thin patience for the girls, and seemed all around pissed off that he was chosen to be there. That was until he met AD.
With AD, he was suddenly smiling and laughing all over himself, and naturally, fans let their guard down. We were starting to see the good qualities of Matthew; he was even laughing! However, that didn’t last long. The sweet Matthew who seemed to have all the “rizz,” was suddenly revealed to be an unoriginal player using the same lines on both AD and Amber. Matthew quickly went from victor to villain as he got caught and eventually ended up leaving to find Amber, who had already left. There was no love in this equation for any of the three people involved, and AD later became engaged to another sweet talker, Clay.
While some pairings were unlucky in love, others had love directly in their faces and just couldn’t see it, which led to a near quad on the show. Jessica liked Jimmy, and Jimmy liked Jessica, but Jimmy also liked Chelsea, who liked Jimmy, but also liked Trevor, who liked Chelsea. See how confusing that sounds? Jimmy and Jessica had chemistry. The kind that makes it seem like you may be meant for each other. The issue was that Jessica was a mom, and Jimmy didn’t see himself becoming a stepparent. This was never explicitly said by him, but you could tell.
Chelsea met Trevor, and they had chemistry as well. They made each other laugh, had a lot in common, and seemed good for each other. It was one of those rare situations where you truly believed that these two pairings could go the distance – until Chelsea and Jimmy went rogue and got engaged to each other leaving Trevor and Jessica devastated. It would’ve been somewhat okay if Chelsea and Jimmy had an ounce of something that feels or even looks like love, but they didn’t.
Surrounded by chaos and bad couplings, there were two pairings left. One who seemed to have gotten it right – Kenneth and Brittany – and one who at least believed that they did – Laura and Jeramey. All in all, this season of Love is Blind promises to be more intense than the last. With love on the table, there’s more at stake, and no one wants to make the wrong choice. The next three episodes will hit Netflix on February 21st, and in the meantime, catch up on what you’ve missed, read the list of added goodies below, and hope that these couples will either find love or have the good sense to find the exit before marrying someone that’s not for them.
Most Unhinged Quotes and Ridiculous Moments:
- “I think I’ve got the entire country of America on my side.” – Matthew to AD. Spoiler Alert, he didn’t.
- “When you see and realize what you missed out on, you are going to choke. You will need your EpiPen to open your airways because you missed out.” – Jessica to Jimmy, did we mention she’s an icon?
- “He identifies as a Black male.” – Brittany’s interview about Kenneth. It’s true, he is a Black male, it just was such a funny and slightly cringeworthy comment though no harm was intended.
- In the pods before meeting in person Chelsea suggests to Jimmy that she looks like Megan Fox (and to be fair, from certain angles she does), but this clearly went into his rationale for why he chose her only to reveal himself to be a bit disappointed later.
- Like Chelsea, Clay seems to have forgotten the “blind” aspect of “Love is Blind,” and briefly tries to get AD to describe her physical attributes to him having decided he can’t propose to someone he isn’t physically attractive to. Sorry, Clay. This is Love is Blind, not Love Island.
Can you believe this is only the first six episodes?! Who knows what will happen next?
