Coming straight out of the crazy Sandman Universe today we have Lucifer, a darker more unconventional story that already existing fans of the Sandman universe are bound to love. Today, the devil finds himself in a hell of his own creation in LUCIFER from writer Dan Watters and artists Max Fiumara and Sebastian Fiumara!
The Sandman Universe introduces LUCIFER, one of the most notorious figures in all of mankind. However, the devil has gone missing. Having embarked on a dangerous journey to find the mother of his abandoned son, the Prince of Lies finds himself imprisoned and crippled by mysterious forces who seek to torment him for their own terrible ends.
Now before I give my thoughts on the story I have to talk about that incredible cover art. That dark reds and blacks blend together so well and the tagline “Will sin for food” is absolutely fantastic. Lucifer himself is clearly so much more than human but the idea that he will sin just food because he is so desperate is extremely human in my opinion. What lengths would you go to out of desperation? What lengths would a man like Lucifer go to? Some seriously intriguing yet dark stuff which pretty much sums up the Sandman Universe perfectly.
The small plot synopsis we got is just as interesting as the cover art with the idea that Lucifer would embark on a dangerous quest to find the mother of his abandoned son. Why would Lucifer risk his life on this mission? Does he truly love the mother of his son or is his hate that strong he would risk his life to get to her? Almost a reverse of the classic fantasy tale of the hero traveling on a quest to rescue or save someone. Plus why was his son abandoned and how does Lucifer feel about him? All these questions are so interesting and that’s what I love most about the Sandman Universe. It’s so obscure in the best way possible and the stories it tells are unlike any other I have experienced.
Lucifer is out right now so if you want to check it out you can via DC Vertigo however whilst Lucifer is on his journey, a car has crashed, two witches blind themselves, a tumor speaks its first words, and a perfectly good bowl of oatmeal is left to go cold. How odd…
