Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz are getting a documentary with Amy Poehler in the directors chair. Imagine Documentaries and White Horse Pictures announced the husband and wife duo documentary on Monday. I for one am very excited. As a big Lucy fan one who has, I Love Lucy every morning from 9-10 on the Decades Channel can’t wait for this film.
The current working title for the film is Lucy & Desi and will examine the comedy of Lucille Ball and her rise to the top. Then it will analyze her relationship with Desi Arnaz and how their sitcom I Love Lucy was groundbreaking for its time. Lucy died in 1989 yet her legacy still lives on and forever changed Hollywood.
This will be Amy Poehlers first time in the chair for a documentary. The film will be produced under Poehlers Paper Kite production company with Imagine and White Horse coming in bringing the Ball and Arnaz’s estate to create the film with first-person narratives, archival film and still photos.
“I am so excited to work with Imagine Docs to help present the incredible life and work of the brave and hilarious Lucille Ball and her husband Desi Arnaz,” Poehler said in a statement.
Imagine Documentaries’ president and producer Justin Wilkes added: “As television’s long-reigning ‘First Family’, Lucy and Desi blazed a revolutionary trail through the cultural landscape that laid the groundwork for so much of the entertainment industry as we now know it. They created so many television firsts — not only in their portrayal of a multi-ethnic marriage or Lucy’s on-air pregnancy but as the first woman to head a studio and the creators of television syndication. It’s such an incredibly rich, inspiring, and entertaining story and we’re honored to bring it to the screen.”
You know I’m excited, but what do you think? How do you think Poehler will do in the directors chair for this film? Let us know in the comments.

Mamma, Mimi, Michele, call out any one of those names and I will answer. There are several hats on my shelf. My passions are photography, being outside, movies, tv, pop culture and anything haunted or spooky. People are my other interest, I love meeting new people and socializing. When I lived in Savannah GA I worked as a tour guide both haunted and historical tours. I met people from all over the world, that was the best part of the job. All of this I can write about too, that’s the beauty of being a writer.
